Special Incoming and Advice Needed

I had a really special incoming about 2 months ago, it wasn't a watch but my first child a boy. His original due date was the end of October, but he came about 6 weeks early. Most importantly he and my wife are doing well now and we were able to bring him home.

I want to buy him a birth year GMT Master II or the Starbuck-Cermit to give to him on his 18th birthday. I know these are very tough to get. I checked in with my AD where I have a small purchase history (Explorer and Sub) and they really couldn't give me a definitive time frame. I can't really afford to go Grey on these either.

Should I try and pursue another watch that is more attainable like the Speedmaster?
