Wow, I didn't realize the Tudor case was so much bigger than the Daytona. I just assumed they would have made the Tudor to be similar in size to the older Tudor 792xx series from the early 2000's .

A much more fun brand.

If Tudor re-issued the Sub or Snowflake sub - I'd go that route.

More fun for watch nerds and less "omg whats it worth" bs.

ETA: I'll say it - know what makes Rolex unappealing? A large majority of the folks that buy them. In my age group (35-45) it's all about the "Rollie" and frankly its a huge turnoff. Zilch for enjoyment of what they are and only bought for the image.

I get it, free country and do your thing - but the more douchey the owners get the more Tudor looks appealing.

Great point and resonates with me.

Using the word “Rollie” tells me everything I need to know.

Rolex has no reason to cede the $2k to $7K space to others. I have the Panda, GMT, BB58 and Blue/Orange Heritage Chrono. 3 of them get equal wrist time (Heritage Chrono is more a spring summer thing but is my absolute favorite due to uniqueness).

I agree with you Finslayer. I'm in the upper end of your age group too and I've had some interactions with a couple of people the past year regarding my two Rolex watches. They were uncomfortable to put it mildly - all about the $ and the "investment potential." The majority of the folks interested in Rolex today don't seem to be people I have much in common with. The "flexing" the investment bs, it's all a huge turn off for me.

Got a BB58 black and a Explorer i (114270) . Tudor is a more robust watch period, overall dial quality maybe will go to the Rolex but it a close call. Will see in 20 years what the BB look like but i have faith.

It is a dream of many Tudor owners, but it remains to be a dream only.

tudor are great watches. they wont replace rolex and no they arent the new rolex. rolex is still a mass produced machined product. if rolex ever changes that maybe i change my opinion - but probably not.

Machined watches can be of higher quality than hand made / hand finished, it all depends on the quality of the process and Rolex most likely has the best.

What Rolex is not is haute horlogerie, they aren't trying to be and never will be of course.

This is what brings me back to another analogy I’ve used: I’d rather have a Honda sedan, but a Toyota SUV. Similarly, I’d prefer a Speedy over Tudor chrono, but a Glamour 36 on leather over a comparable De Ville. Heritage Seamaster 300 wins out slightly over BB58 for me, while I prefer the BB line to the 42mm divers with external helium valve. Constellation beats out the Royal.

This is all price notwithstanding. With price as a factor, only the heritage Seamaster still wins, but there’s a high likelihood I’d actually prefer that to a Sub in the first place.
