Can’t go wrong with either. It would be nice to have a choice but last time I checked my AD said he could use about 300 of these…

As other have said, for the BLRO I would have to pick the jubilee - I think it works so well and the comfort is amazing.

It depends what you want or care about. To me, the Pepsi on jubilee is the best looking watch ever made. On the oyster, it doesn't look as good. If you care about keeping your bracelet pristine, the oyster will show scratches a lot more easily than the jubilee. Despite what people say, the oyster with its PCLs is also much more flashy. This is because the PCLs have a much larger surface area to reflect light than the centre pieces of the jubilee.
I did the same. I asked for the Oyster then found l couldn't get a nice fit with it, l bought a jubilee separately and now l prefer it, plus it's a change of style from my Submariner.

Pepsi is the only sports model that looks really good on jubilee IMHO.
Even prefer it to the oyster bracelet.

Agreed Larry.

In a world of Oyster professional references, the jubilee provides a different look. It’s also SUPER comfortable

On a BLRO I'd go Jubilee. On any other Rolex - literally ANY other model - I'd always say Oyster.

Oyster:

- the original GMT was on Oyster not Jubilee so is more authentic

- I prefer how the Oyster integrates with the case (as it was designed to)

- the original Jubilee was for the Datejust and I prefer it that way, so far I have reserved Jubilee bracelets for my Datejusts

- I also feel the 21mm Jubilee on the DJ41 is better looking than the 20mm Jubilee on GMT

- GMT is much thicker and also heavier than DJ, so it feels a little top heavy on the GMT

For reference I have BLRO on Oyster myself. Ironically if I was to pick up a BLNR, I would consider it on Jubilee as I feel the more jewellery like bracelet softens the somewhat boyish colour scheme on the BLNR and creates a point of difference I think I would enjoy.

And, in my opinion, the more traditional among the two current offerings. The Oyster was historically all-brushed, while the Jubilee has always had PCL.

LOL, good on you. I haven't been allocated an oyster stainless pepsi this year. Pics or it didn't happen.

I have the jubilee. However, I think I would wear it more if it was on an oyster.

You really cannot go wrong either way.

My personal preference is Jubilee because a GMT is for travel and dealing with people across time zones and for me that is mostly business and wearing business attire. Jubilee is more formal.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either, but I chose the oyster, simply because I have the Batgirl on jubilee and I can swap the bracelet between the two of them.

There is no wrong choice here.

But, preference is GMTs on Jubilee. So many other watches on oyster

On the Pepsi I prefer the oyster, on the Batman, Jubilee. The red and blue of the pepsi is loud enough that the oyster keeps it from being to attention grabby, vs. the toned down black and blue which does well with a more flashy bracelet.

It was indeed on an Oyster rivet. That was standard. Then you could choose other bracelet options in the catalog, but the standard issue was the rivet. Somewhere here, over in the vintage section, there is an original spec sheet with all of the 4 digit references and both the bracelet codes and the endlink codes for each one from the 1950s all the way up to the 1970s.

The original Rolex advertisement is about halfway down this page. Only $240! LOL https://le-monde-edmond.com/in-depth...42-gmt-master/

Jubilee is more comfortable and like others have stated you can get an Oyster on many other models.

Interesting ... I guess I assumed the picture as shown was the very first.

That's a very controversial subject (the albino dial) as it wasn't available to the public and many questions remain about its authenticity.

That website I linked is great because they really deep dive into the history of the 6542 and the nuances of the dials and hands, inserts, etc. and then there are lots of pics of examples and closeup shots. If you love the 6542 like I do, it's awesome.

Here are some fun ads from the '50s and a couple of immaculate pieces. Several members here actually own 6542s in their collections. I would love to hold one someday.
