Agree. No reason to protect alligators.

Its only the US where they won’t be sold any longer. I assume you’re from Leeds, West Yorkshire? If so the UK (and Europe) still gets the Cellini line

It is partly true. From what I know it is due to the fact that alligator is protected in some parts of the US. For that reason Rolex has not been able to supply straps for Cellinis.

Rolex did this with Tudor for a few decades, and it only returned a short time ago.

When Tudor was reintroduced, it took off like a rocket, so they have some history that tells them that this may be a good business move.

Good news particularly if they offset with additional sport watch shipments!

Alligator straps are totally legal under CITES rules if source is proven to be legitimate as are those from the USA

as are crocodile straps from Australia from farmed crocodiles which are CITES approved

i have a white gold daydate with alligator strap purchased only a few years ago

non story regarding straps - the Cellini i have no idea?

To think Rolex would discontinue a watch because of an alligator strap is ridiculous. Simply change the strap. If indeed they are canceling it it’s cause of poor sales.

Purely based on looks, the current line is not for me. Some older models are quite interesting, but generally speaking, I prefer several other brands when it comes to a proper dress piece.

I agree.

They could do better and maybe they will.

They could completely revamp the Cellini line of watches.

Cellini to be banished from the U.S.

There is nothing official from RUSA according to my nearby AD. But the reps have been hearing from ADs about getting watches that don’t move at retail counters. By “don’t” I should say slow movers.

In that ADs case he was advised to put the Cellini’s in with the Classic/fashion types of Rolexes. Just a marketing suggestion by the reps. I would always see 5-6 same models there for a year or more.

So, on the reason for the empty Cellini slots now happening, have we considered that secondary market sellers might now be required to take 1 or 2 Cellini’s in a package deal for the 1 hot Professional model being sold to them?

If I was an AD doing such things, that’s how I would turn that Cellini inventory quicker.

I do not know any of this for certain … so I’m just throwing it out there for discussion …

Why would Rolex source Alligator Straps from the USA, to build a Cellini in Switzerland ?

I suspect the Cellini line is being phased out … USA first … due to the lack of demand.

Sad to me, because I think they are beautiful watches, and I hate to see them go.

Don’t know what the hate is all about. I think they are killer watches and have a very hefty weight to them.
