You could help yourself by searching. Padi certainly has his strong stances but his many contributions to the forum are undeniable!

I have to admit, I’m not keen on it either but then again I don’t buy any clothes or trainers that are green either.

Some people’s lack of self awareness is amazing. Padi’s post about the origin of his father’s watch is more interesting than anything this guy will ever post. What a clown.

I understand you may be frustrated about a similar theme coming through however please don't say he doesn't post threads of value. I don't think anyone else on here posts more technically detailed knowledge, on all variations of Rolex watches.
Do your homework please, and he is actually correct. Rolex watches have become a form of currency for new money, 30 somethings who don't know the difference between an automatic and a manual wind! He does say it a lot however

Do your homework NG. Padi is a great source of knowledge and a well respected member of this forum.

i would agree instagram was the trigger for not only the hulk but a number of manufacturers and watches.

also as the kermit was appreciating, there was definitely an element of fomo on the current production reference.

happy I got mine in march 2017 before the madness kicked off!

You could be right about Instagram as in my opinion a Hulk dial pictured in sunlight on a beach looks a hell of a lot better than when you see one sitting in a case at a dealers.
All the Sunburst dials have a magic about them when the sun hits , I'm surprised dealers didn't try and get some better lighting in their showrooms to show it off more, im guessing these days there's no need as the models are all sold anyway

I bought mine 5 years ago, for slightly under retail would you believe, and then a couple of weeks later disco rumours started and the price bumped up by a grand or so, then when Basel came around a few months later and the false rumours did not lead to a market correction I knew then something was seriously up and driving prices, regardless of the actual market news, and this we know now was due to massive QE, Stockmarket and Crypto rises, the Chinese Gift Buying again, the Brexit caused foreign demand surge and ofc all this exacerbated to extremes with social media highlighting and thus hyping where the money was going.

Combination of all factors above, besides being a very unique, beautiful watch. I was fortunate to get the call from my AD in 2020 and get it months before it was discontinued. Absolutive love my Hulk

I admit it, the demand for the LVc all started with me. I am the catalyst to take the LVc from display case zero to gotta own it hero.

The real reason is the LVc took off is it was released ahead of its time. This is true for a few other models the average Rolex buyer didn’t under stand. Then when people take notice, FOMO sets in and they run out to buy it which snowballs. At this point people look around and see how long this unloved watch has been being produced and then begins to worry it may get discontinued. This throws fuel on the FOMO fire and you have the new blue print of todays new “hot Rolex” models.

The Hulk and TT Rootbeer may be the most beautiful sports Rolex ever made.

I think the Skydweller Blue deserves to be in that list.
Those three are the best Rolex watches.

I like the SD, but it's not sports. I was talking about sport Rolex

this watch has become expensive, for one main reason (aside from grey dealer market manipulation)

because the majority of the human population are bleeting, moronic, sheep.

for YEARS, people on this forum ranted about what an ugly, hideous watch this was. it was the one watch I could GUARANTEE that I would see, whichever AD I walked into, in whichever airport, or shopping centre, in whichever country I happened to be in.

Suddenly Rolex take it away, and all the bleeting sheep want it, because they can't have it!

I hope Rolex re-release this, but I doubt it, too many fools from which to keep extracting cash

None of that is true. TRF is where the hype actually started. There were equal number of praises as there were naysayers. The naysayers are still here btw. Also EVERY watch was in the case before 2017. Except the Daytona.

I probably agree. Both standout timepieces for me.

THIS.

Maybe Instagram has something to do with it but I think objectively, the watch was ahead of its time. I've met several "OG" Hulk owners that got them at discount and they almost never fail to mention that one of the reasons they purchased the watch was because of the Rolex green. Most people back then probably understandably looked at it and thought "ew, why green?" Fast forward a few years and people start to recognize how unique the watch is. I don't think it's fair some people marginalize it and attribute it all to hype but whatever, it's only a watch.

I bought mine in 2015. I kind of despised it from its release on. Thought it was terrible.

Then one day I saw a picture of it somewhere and something flipped. In a time when all these watches could be had for a discount it still felt quite special to me.

I was a huge fan of the 16610LV and was very disappointed when I finally got to hold one at my AD and experienced at first hand how a tinny and flimsy the bracelet was.

It was the other way round with the 116610LV. I didn't like it at all. I thought the bezel looked washed out and the dial was garish. Then I met one in the metal. Instant love.

Same for me on the old bracelet, and also on the LVc, I went into the ADs all set on the Deep Blue but when I saw the green dial light up in front of me I walked out with the LVc.

I see the same scenario happening to the Air King. A lot buy it because of the Rolex green writing, green second hand, and yellow crown. It used to sell at discount, and difficult to move. I think the real trigger will be discontinuation if that happens.

When it came out, I swooned. The beautiful dial with the brushed steel just spoke to me. I just loved it. It took me a year to move my Explorer II to buy it. It's now been over 10 years and I still smile when I put it on. To be honest, I didn't even make the connection with "Rolex green" until much later.

To me, that's what it should be. Buy a watch one loves. It's not complicated.

Is the original 16610lv skyrocketing at the same rate? Or just the hulk?
