Professional flippers probably have one personal Rolex anyway that they wear all the time. They don't even keep flipped watches long enough for fingerprints.

Any model purchased from an AD or discontinued, vintage or neo-vintage is ok to wear in. Any hot model purchased from a grey is inviting the wrong conversation.

Put your watch in your pocket and leave it there while you're at the AD.
That removes that whole topic and you can do what you came in to do, which is to shop for a new watch. It might help to bring in your bank statement and put that on the counter while you negotiate.

When I bought my Black Bay 58 the first thing said to me by the AD Sales Rep was nice OP. I said, it is a Air King.

Going into ADs, they always notice. Not like it matters, they have nothing to buy (Rolex). When I wore my Reverso, they would engage on what they had available.
When going into the AD where I bought my first piece, the SA would ask if I was wearing it (always was) and we would have a good conversation. I was young, and he knew I was tapped out and never asked about an additional purchase. Just a good dude. Have I been treated different by what I wore? Definitely. Was not a good experience. We were treated with dismissal and rudeness until the SA saw what we were wearing. Never went back. |

Do Rolex ADs judge you by your watch?
JLC, if you have one, is good to wear when visiting ADs. Almost all of them appreciate the brand and would presume you have some other nice pieces at home.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. I wore my JLC to the AD just to pick out a new strap. SA was impressed with the watch and we talked about watches for a while. After the convo he asked me which Rolex I wanted and that he would get it for me within the year. And it’s not like I bought a watch. I bought straps. Not high value items. I guess I’ll believe it when I actually get a watch. But it doesn’t seem like a coincidence. And it wasn’t even a ploy. I just wanted straps for my watch. You know what they say, watchmaker’s watchmaker. |

They always size you up real close nowadays.
They won't sell you anything if you smells like a flipper. Well, maybe a cellini / pearlmaster. |

Wear the Tudor they sold you on one wrist and the Tag they sold you on the other. That
Might jog their memory that you’re playing their game. Then tell them your grail is a two tone ladies Datejust for your wife’s graduation or something? |

A friend went to an AD and showed an interest in a dated submariner. He put his name on the list and he got a call 2 weeks later. It was his 1st rolex. I was surprised how quick he acquired his.
I remember waiting 8 months for mine from my AD and I bought 4 from her previously in the past year. Currently waiting for a deep sea and 126613LB sub. I think it depends on the AD and the person you deal with. |

Pretty sure everyone who has ever walked into an AD or brand boutique has seen the salesperson glancing at their wrist. This was the case 10 years ago when I got into this hobby and the market was soft and continues to this day. Wearing any watch with horological pedigree will help and will show that you are an actual customer not just a tire kicker.

I always wear a nice watch when going to an AD. It establishes the fact that you spend money on what they sell.

I think if an AD is making that sort of judgment call based predominantly on what watch someone is wearing that this is probably not a very business savvy decision on their behalf with respect to maximizing their return in terms of how they utilize selling the pieces they have.

I've had it work out for me when I've been into dealers that wasnt my local AD.
Once at Dubai airport I was wearing a Steel Daytona and get chatting to the SA about the lack of stock ect and how I'd had a long relationship with my local dealer. He proceeded to pull out a steel Sub from under the counter and said that he tries to offer the sports models they get to genuine customers. I was also on holiday in Spain in the summer and visited a dealer there wearing my Cermit , they SA mentioned I as lucky to have got it and must have a good relationship back home to have been offered it , I then enquired about a Bluesy which they said they'd be able to get me in a few days. I don't know for sure if what watch I was wearing made the difference or I was just lucky but I do know that walking into a dealers these days and demanding a long list of 'hot models' wont get you very far |

Do Rolex ADs judge you by your watch?
I rarely walk into random ADs these days. Nothing to look at really.
My AD greets me the same regardless of what’s on my wrist. Seiko, Tudor, Casio, Rolex. We usually talk about life anyway, not watches. But when I do walk into one of the ADs on the strip, they usually just leave me be even if I’m wearing a Rolex |

Could not care less what an AD thinks about the watch I am wearing or where I got it. Grey or AD...it is, as a matter of fact, not any of his business. I am in his store to spend money and assist him with making payroll during a pandemic. Treat me like a possible future customer and I will continue to visit his store....no matter what watch I wear and where it came from.

Definitely. When I wear my YM42 or RO I get approached/have significantly friendlier conversation. With my santos, I've always had to initiate/flag down an SA. First thing they check out is what's on your wrist.
