Put a "woopie cushion" on his chair and wear a "Hawaiian" shirt, shorts, and flipflops. Wear a Rolex on each wrist.

Be your true self and not a reflection of others. You're more likely to truly be successful.

I'd hire a full marching band to precede your entrance, and get them to announce your arrival whilst shouting the customary "full box and papers bro".

Or, you could wear what you want, and make a good impression by actually doing your job well?

That sounds far too logical, i dont think your taking the op's quandary seriously. Although the marching band does sound like a good idea.

It’s your job. Why risk it if you are concerned? Don’t wear a watch if you will be paranoid the whole time. Easy solution.

This is a most uninformed comment, people say this all too often.

You don’t know what people notice, they just don’t comment. The Apple Watch is my choice, it’s unassuming, it doesn’t make the kind of statement that ANY Rolex will make.

Apple Watch would be my first instinct. Will give you something to make small talk over.
- how do you like it?
- do you use XYZ?
- etc

Second choice would be the OP.

Lower profile is generally best when meeting new folks in the workplace

But I’ve always heard, never wear a more expensive watch than your boss :)
I would wear the one that keeps the best time so I would not be late.

Wow. Just wow.
If you are so nerve-wracked and fearful of your confidence, perhaps wear no watch at all.
Worrying about any watch you are wearing may cause you to subconsciously impart a bad impression on the guy anyway.

If you're working for the kind of outfit where this kind of s**t really matters, I would want out. In a lifetime of work I have never needed to impress my boss with what I wear, only with good, honest, performance in the job.

Whichever watch you want. It likely wont matter unless you are showy, and constantly showing off your "Rolex".

I rotate all my watches at work, all of them cost multiple times more than any of my bosses watches. No one notices, or cares. Hell, other than my friends that are into watches, no one i spend any time around notices whether i have a Rolex Cermit or a Citizen. And to be honest, i like it that way, i dont wear them to show off, i wear them because i like them.

Just choose the one you like the most, or wear the most, and take that one.

Agree with this.

I always thought nobody noticed that I mostly wore a sub at work. It wasn’t until work drinks events when people would comment ‘nice Rolex’ meaning they have noticed but not said anything until they felt brave enough!

I just wear whatever now. But if I was in the OP situation of new job and unfamiliar surroundings I would go low key. AW or possibly Tudor or Omega or something similar depending on your collection.

Retired now and spent the last year working from home. Before, I was literally the only person in a work group of over a hundred who wore a Rolex. I had two “watch guy” co-workers who I chatted with sometimes, no one else ever said a word.

So I'm a Sr Executive that manages a lot of people...
1) I don't judge people based on the watch they're wearing
2) If you do a good job, act professional, have a positive attitude, and get along with others, then it doesn't matter what watch you wear.
3) If you don't do a good job, don't act professional, don't have a positive attitude, or don't get along with others, then it still doesn't matter what watch you wear; I'm still not going to like you anyway...

If you don't want to stick out in the workplace, follow your manager's lead and wear the Apple Watch. It has zero chance of being offensive and provides quite a bit of utility. If your manager is also wearing his Apple, it's all good. If he happens to be wearing a cool mechanical watch, you've done no harm and maybe have the opportunity in the future to wear yours.

This seems like quite an exaggerated reaction to the original post! But I do agree that if you’re spending any time deciding about what watch to wear, just wear the Apple Watch or no watch. Focus on what’s important. If you’re just making conversation here, then that’s ok too.

Pocket watch..

And flip it out every few minutes to show that you have important places to be.

Since he wears an Apple Watch, I'd wear an Apple Watch or something comparable, but certainly not my Rolex. You can then focus on business rather than your watch. You can see what others are wearing and perhaps wear one at a future meeting.
