From your list Paul, I assume these are the same ones. Might get a couple, though I wonder if Seiko might come with a new longer-life battery in the near future.

Yes, I believe you’re right.

I get the SSC Tech’s concern since other batt makers may have risk of leakage that could ruin the movement’s electronics.

Yep, 9F is rated -/+ 5 secs/year with the star on the dial, and -/+10 secs a year without the star (regular dial) - although my regular dial SBGT235 only gained +1 sec over 12 months to March 2022.

My non star 9f some how does 2-3s /per year. They are insane.

Is there a big difference in finishing between the entry level SBGX263 ($2,200) and the LE SBGP017 ($3,800 ) ? I understand the SBGP017 has a 44GS case, Gold Star at 6pm, and +- 5 Sec/year .

I don’t think there is a difference. I have the SBGT235 day date and the finishing is superb. And the accuracy is incredible…I tracked it for 213 days and it was +4.3 s. I will be getting the SBGP017 soon, and then I could compare finishing between the two.

By that time, Seiko was mass producing double quickset day/date movements 20 years before Rolex. It's not a brand that needs to disguise its involvement with its own premium line.
Totally agreed. I’ve fallen hard down the vintage Seiko rabbit hole and the breadth and depth of Seiko’s achievements is insane. The only reason they’re not up there with the internationally-recognised GOATs (if not THE GOAT) is because for a century they didn’t care one iota about ex-Japan. I personally prefer the GSs with the Seiko on the dial - there’s pride there!
