During the late 80s and until the mid/late nineties the TT ruled supreme. In fact they were sold at a premium over retail just like the SS are today. Afterwards, and until the present day, TT fell out of fashion and as such their secondary market pricing reflects that. Like all fashion the trend for TT, we just don’t know when. It’s been 30 years. Maybe next year?

I think if TT was to be in fashion again it would have been over the last few years when everything else was so damn expensive. If that wasn’t enough to lure people into trying them and liking them again I don’t know what will.

I love TT. So I’m good regardless

I have all three variants and IMHO it depends on the watch in question. I prefer my TT sub to my SS subs however the LV has a special place. When it comes to YMs my preference is my Rose gold. Day date is WG and date just I have both SS and TT just depends on my dial preference that day.

I don't think any has a particular allure to the other for me; just dependant on what am I wearing however in my family time and relaxed moments I find my self wearing TT or PM more often then not.

I would maybe argue that while TT isn't the hottest trend in the watch enthusiast community, it hasn't really fallen out of vogue. Plenty of people are still buying and wearing TT watches. It may not be as popular as SS, but it's still very much alive and well.

Most people are buying sports models these days and SS is the most versatile, less flashy, and just makes more sense for most people's lives. Gold and TT pieces are beautiful, no doubt. But the wearing experience can be a lot different than a SS piece. You may find yourself not wearing in certain situations or places that you wouldn't think twice about wearing a SS watch. Also the color of YG or RG just doesn't work for everyone. I dabbled briefly with a TT RG piece and it took a couple of months to realize it wasn't for me. Off it went, no regrets...

For me it’s two things mostly …

The professionals started off in Stainless Steel, so for me, I guess I feel it’s keeping truer to their roots.

Also, I’m not really into heavy watches. I know a SS DSSD weighs about as much as an all gold Submariner, but to me, that’s a little too heavy for daily wear. YMMV

I prefer the look and lighter weight of steel.

Rolex certainly wants us to buy gold, because the margins are much higher. Let's say a gold Sub has 200g of gold in it, which is worth about $12K US...but they charge $28K more for the gold Sub vs. the steel Sub.

Does the dssd really weigh as much as gold sub?

Interestly I actually weighed my gold dd40 and a tt sky dweller the other day there was only 15 grams or so in it

If memory serves it’s about 225gms all in. Not sure the weight of a Gold Sub. I think the PT Daytona is around 280 gms

I only have SS models. I am a young guy. Try not to draw too much attention to myself. I can't wear a yellow gold PM piece but I am drawn to a white gold model. But I always use to think that two tone was something out of Wall Street but as I grow older and my taste changes I am starting to really like two-tone. Perhaps a bluesy, two-tone sky or two-tone wimbledon may be something I look into in future.

I moved all my PM watches out and only have SS models now. They fit my personal style better and can be dressed up and down with more of how I dress in my lifestyle. A PCL SS Rolex is plenty flashy if you need to display some bling.

I remember back in my trading days in the 90s/00s everyone wore the YG DD, I was the only one who had a stainless sub. I guess I was ahead of the curve style wise lol.

SS will always trump two-tone for me (maybe not my wife). I'll gladly pay less MSRP-wise for the metal that I actually prefer.

PM is great but obviously expensive!

All 18K pink or yellow on an Oyster. I’m one of the few who would prefer an Oyster over a President, Rubber or leather any day.

That’s some weight! I’ve tried it on several times didn’t seem to feel that heavy to me (no more so than the sd43 anyway) shame as I like watches with weight to them I just don’t like this watch i haven’t seen one for a while but my memory is telling me something felt a bit “domed” to it and I didn’t like the shape.

It’s all personal preference. I prefer SS, but there are some very nice PM two tone versions that I like as well.
