The lesson in all of this is to be clear and concise with your AD. If you only want one watch and it’s the Sub, don’t give them a second choice if you’re not going to accept it
Good luck |

This is what happen if you think you cant flip a dj41 anymore for a profit or at least getting your money back. i doubt op will decline if this was 4-5 months ago. asking for a watch you want and declined said something about you. Now your chance to get a sub got slimmer. Heck, flipping a sub now is not even worth it anymore. you be lucky to get 1k from grey.

If you were polite about it they probably haven't thought twice about you since; simply down the list they go.
In 48 hours they'll forget they even offered it to you, in a week they'll have forgotten you exist until you text them reminding them of the sub interest. Unless your AD has that little black Rolex book where they put a frowny face sticker next to your name. Then you're in real trouble with Geneva :) Let some time pass and then reaffirm your desire for the Sub.

The AD knew that the DJ wasn't my "second choice." It was the "second Rolex" I planned to buy. I was always very clear about that. The SA was great. I've spoken with her a couple of times since declining the DJ. Would my chances of getting a sub sooner improved with the DJ? Probably. However, based on the interactions I've had, I don't think they've been worsened.

Wow...people have gotten really brainwashed over the past 5 years. Submariners were always readily available before the craze started and they will be once again soon. The only reason to play AD games, or to care what the AD thinks of you at this point is if you must get a Daytona at MSRP.

If it makes you feel any better, I was in a similar situation. I was offered a SS Yachtmaster and turned it down. I had originally put my name on the list for this model along with a Sub and GMT. I had thankfully secured a 124060 prior with another AD.
My reasoning was someone I knew wore the same watch and had a poor history with one of my family members (I had come to find out after the fact - we work in the same industry). I discussed this with the SA, and, frankly, I have the same concerns that I may have soured the relationship as well. I should have indicated my lack of interest in the watch, but forgot to do so. I was also offered a DJ41 when I said I may have some interest in it, but I found it to be too much for my wrist when I tried it on. I'm not sure what the SA thinks at this point, but he did say at the end to peruse the Rolex catalog for any other models I may be interested in, as he said the GMTs are "unicorns." At least the SA knows I'm not a flipper, and I had previously bought some jewelry at the store for my wife. I'm sure that Yachtmaster was sold soon after. |

They have my OP 41 in Green ready! Thats been over 2 years I have been waiting. Definitely feels like things are getting better. Worth showing your face in your AD if you haven't done so in a while.

U don't lose money if u get a DJ41 SS blue dial even in today's market.
But most importantly is you buy what you like. |

Many DJs are headed right back to MSRP on the secondary market. Agreed though that the most important is buy what you like - value comes a very distant second (as it should) |

The ADs want reliable customers that are going to take watches they've ordered , the OP will have just taken himself off that Sub list or been placed lower down |

I don't think the DJ gets enough love. This is one of the finest timepieces you could ever own, period. So many excellent options You can customize your choice among dial, bezel, bracelet. and every combination is beautiful, special, timeless. Goes with everything. Just perfect and effortless.

OP here with an update...
Apparently, I am not completely incapable of handling human interaction in a seller's market despite the feelings of many. ;) The same SA called to offer me another DJ41 today. After the previous experience, I naturally agreed to purchase the watch. Unfortunately, another SA at the AD also offered it to another client. I was in the process of initiating a wire transfer when the watch sold. I missed this one through no fault of my own, but am confident this AD will find me another Sub or DJ very soon. |

My head hurts. OP was offered DJ, turned it down, half of TRF said "good move" the other half said "no Sub for you" so he calls back and decides to buy the DJ that he can't afford, is offered the next one and is going to buy it but it already gets sold. Still no Sub.
Do I have that right?

Yup. And I am OK with it. I have a 42 Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean. So the blue dial DJ fits a niche, while the Sub will be somewhat redundant. I do plan to move the Omega full time to a black rubber strap once I get a Sub, but the DJ offers more diversity with the blue dial.
Either way, I wasn't going to turn it down twice... |

You've sort of got it right...
Could afford both but don't want to spend $20k on watches, so essentially was put on the spot deciding between one or the other with the call offering a DJ catching me off guard. Sub was always the preference and the only "official request." Originally mentioned that after getting a Sub, I would be interested in a DJ down the line. Turned the DJ down to wait on a sub. Decided that I did want the DJ and called back 30 min later to purchase. Was willing to put off the Sub as I didn't want to make two significant purchases back to back. Purchase didn't work out because I live 4+ hours away and they wouldn't take my AMEX over the phone. Had every intention of completing the purchase. DJ sold to another buyer. Told the SA that I would likely be in their area this week and next and could come by in person if they happened to get a shipment. To my surprise, she called this morning with another DJ. In an amazingly unfortunate turn of events, my expected travel this week cancelled and I am not in their area as expected. Discovered a wire transfer was an option and started to go that route. In the 10 minutes it took me to get the bank info for the AD and initiate the transfer another SA at the AD sold the watch. Still no Sub. Still no DJ. However, ADs are calling (as others have said, in many posts). This will work out. The SA has been great and is looking out for me. Who knows what they receive next. Blue dial DJ or black Sub, I'm going to be very happy either way. Quote:
