Classic apples vs oranges comparison- automatic vs manual wind chronos. As far as build quality/fit and finish are concerned I'm sure it's a tie.

It would come down to one's movt. preference- for me it would be auto, hence Daytona.

Others may prefer manual winding and movt. finishing; hence for them the 321 Speedy would be the best option.

Judging just by picture, Daytona gets my vote for the bling factor!

Thanks Fred! your experience with Speedy’s and Daytonas is unrivalled

321 definitely. It has a lemania based movement and I can stare at that sexy U bridge whole day.

Ed White…it’s a joke! Buy a 3861, an 1861 or an even an older Speedy Pro…..no one will know the difference other than a few Omega enthusiasts.

I mean…I voted Daytona, but I think calling the Ed White a joke is a bit harsh and also unfounded. What does it matter if people know the difference? Are you into this hobby just to show off or do you genuinely enjoy watches? If you are a true horology enthusiast, there is a ton to appreciate about the EW. Who cares what other random people think?

Oh it’s not really the colour, more the typeface and logo.

I guess I would’ve liked to have seen more of what a modern 321 Speedmaster would have looked like.

Ceramic Daytona vs 321 Ed White

At retail, the omega is a great buy. Movement and history of the movement is pretty awesome. I have zero faith in omega collectibility as i could see them dumping this movement in the future into multiple speedmasters. But, it’s a really great watch and if you’re into speedmasters, it feels like the one you have to have.

I wouldn’t pick the omega over the Daytona if i could only have one. I didn’t like the EW bracelet. I feel like the ceramic Daytona is pretty close to perfect.

The 321 is a “superior looking” movement shown off by the sapphire case back. I also love the 321 dial.

The 166500 has the superior modern movement in the venerable 4130. I also prefer the case, bracelet, clasp and the dial is beautiful.

Overall, I would buy either one if offered, but my preference is the Rolex Daytona 116500.

You cannot go wrong with either, and as we all know, as soon as you get one you will think you made a mistake and also want to get the other!

Black ceramic Daytona is absolutely beautiful watch.

I owned it but like the other 3 Daytonas I have owned (and sold) it is an essentially useless watch for telling time or timing things. Case size, fit and WR is perfect.

I expect to receive my 321 soon. Legibility and chrono function are far superior to Daytona. Wr is a disappointment but the manual 321 movement is something special.

The Daytona is much superior. Any Daytona outperforms any Speedmaster.
Save for the size and an old caliber, the 321 is the same as all the various Speedmasters: banal, old and with the squinting subdials.
Do you see I'm a Rolex fan?
I'm go with my Daytona Reverse Panda.

We must be looking at two different watches here my friend.

Even those who prefer the Daytona have to concede that legibility goes to the 321 … it’s not even close

It may well be. But legibility is a little considered parameter compared to the other factors.
And then, honestly, if I read the Speedmaster subdials, I get cross-eyed

I like both the 321 and the Daytona but where I get hung up is that I like the 3861/1861 and for the value of what I am getting the funds for the 321 is a bit much. I acknowledge the movement/history and desirability of the 321 to certain collectors and speculators but to a casual Omega fan who does like to buy/sell/flip and most importantly wear his watches my bang for the buck is with the Daytona. I own both the SS White dial and the Black dial Daytona's. They get minimal wear but when I do wear them everything is right. The Daytona has always been special to me and maybe the mystic is me buying into the Rolex propaganda machine 30 years ago.

You come to a Rolex forum and ask this?? I think you already know which one the winner is gonna be!! Just kidding.

My vote is for the Daytona, but just by an edge. That 321 is a beautiful piece! I can see why you're torn. If both were in front of me and I could only choose one, I think I'd have a really tough time. In the end, I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I guess performance is subjective?
For me it is the ability to legibly indicate the time at a glance (in varying lighting conditions) the speedy is far superior (and always has been) in this function.
Additionally performance is being able to accurately time events, again the legibility of the chrono function in the speedy is far superior and always has been. Of course one could argue that the Daytona has a modern movement with better accuracy however in my experience if I cannot determine the location of the hands then the accuracy is of little value to me. Additionally the screw down pushers, while iconic to the Daytona and pleasant to look at, simply hinder the routine use of the chrono function.

The Daytona is a great looking watch, if we are being honest the 321 is more balanced looking than the Daytona.

Excessive text /Oversized bezel/Off center subdials / markers of different sizes, all contribute to its lack of balance.

The Daytona is truly one of my favorite watches and was the very first Rolex I wanted over 30 years ago. It is also the most frustrating because it fails miserably in its primary function. I have had 4 of them and my favorites are the black ceramic and the white zenith. The black ceramic was magnificent but it had to go. The white zenith is still in the collection at the moment but is looking for a new home.

To me this is not a fair comparison. The Daytona has a self winding movement, adjustable bracelet, screw down crown and chrono pushers, wears smaller, rounded edges on the case and a little dressier than the 321.
The 321 on the other hand is manual wind, sapphire case back to see the beautiful 321 movement, more legible, push down crown and chrono pushers, easer to use, and more of a vintage look. Bracelet is more challenging to adjust to get the perfect fit. They produce around 1000 321 time pieces per year and the watch is handled by a single watch maker from start to finish.
Both are hard to get. The 321 is obtainable at a 50% premium and Black Daytona with around 100% premium.

There will always be less “Ed White” references than Daytonas. secondary market availability is very low compared to the Daytona

I vote 321. I’ve seen one in the flesh but haven’t collected one yet.

Those that know, know.
