Yup, Tom is definitely a candidate for the 36mm club

36" is a great size. I think it looks great on you.

I also have watches from 36" to 42" and they are all great.

There are always folks on this forum that will say a 36" is too small for them, and consider it a woman's size. It's just a matter of personal preference.

Wear in good health

That’s my point. Why would Cruise wear something that makes him look even smaller?

Stallone isn’t that big either, in terms of height and wrist size. Besides, that’s a Rolex sports watch with the same dial size as a 36mm DJ, so they’re similar visually.

Lundgren is entirely different situation. He’s 6’5” and ripped.

for my test <=7 definitely 36mm, for =>7.5 my vote 40mm
My 7.25 very hard decision, but I sold two of my 41 and happy with 36.
P.S. DD its not sport watch .

I have the same 7.25ish situation and couldn’t agree more…

My formula for non-sports is <=7 go 36mm and for =>7.75 go with 40mm

For a “sports watch” you can easily go a little larger though.

36mm was a standard men’s Rolex size for 60+ years, and I’m glad we’re headed back in that direction.

42mm:

Pretty sure Miles is wearing a 228238 black dial 40mm with the baguettes though…not a 36.

Tom used to wear a DJ 36 for years….it was an older model white Roman dial. I think he’s a Cartier ambassador though so thus the reason for him sporting a way too big for him Cartier….

7.25" wrist here. 36-39mm is pretty much where I stay. Current favorite is the new 36mm Explorer. Pretty great.

I agree, 36mm looks appreciated and very nice on a 7.25 wrist.

I have a 41mm sub (2021) and a 36mm day-date (1990). My wrist is not large, but both fit fine. If I had to choose, the day-date is the most comfortable, sits perfectly, and never moves due to weight like the sub sometimes does. I kinda think you can almost wear anything 36 and up for a guy (ignoring the invicta craziness of course). I tried on a sky-dweller and explorer 2 and both were to big for me. The sky dweller due to case, the explorer due to height. But I've seen women wearing them so there's no telling. You really just need to try everything on if possible and not worry about hype.

The “California” dial. (It’s a thing—you can Google it.) Never knew I was a fan til I saw pictures of Francisco’s Tudor.

My only watch I’m wearing apart from a Garmin is my 114270 Explorer. No complaints, in fact I love the feeling of the watch blending into my 7.5 inch wrist.

Not for me. I recently tried on the 36mm Explorer and ugh, tiny, dainty, with a bracelet that tapers to dental floss. Looked and felt terrible. I’d never get one. But it might be perfect for you.

My 36mm DateJust gets more wrist time, than my SS Submariner Date.

In fact, I’m currently waiting for a 36mm Oyster Perpetual, and a 41mm Oyster Perpetual, Black dial, to try on from my AD. I have a 7 /1/2 wrist, and I prefer classic, understated watches. So I enjoy my 36mm white dial DateJust. I never followed the “ Big Watch “ trend.
They say the new 41mm OP actually is 39.5mm. However, I just think the design of the OP, might look better on a 36mm.

I have 7.5 inch wrist and I wear everything from a 36mm Explorer to a 45mm Panerai Radiomir. The big watch trend is dying out. No one has ever looked at my Explorer and said that looks too small for your wrist. If you are a collector, you should collect a variety of sizes (and styles, brands, metals, etc.).

Well IMHO 36mm is perfect for any wrist size many today have been stereo typed into thinking bigger is better. Myself have quite large wrists 8.5 inches yet quite happy to wear some of my vintage watches at 30-34mm.
