Now for the Paul Harvey so maybe it helps others. My relationship with this AD (Richter & Phillips in Cincinnati) only started back in March of this year. I was referred by a friend and went in to look at an Omega Aqua Terra, I spoke with the first salesperson who walked up and said hi. After trying the Aqua Terra and a few others I elected to go with a new Speedmaster Pro Sapphire with the caliber 3861 movement. It took me a week of research and hand-wringing after that initial visit but I fell in love with the sapphire case back and how visible the movement of the watch was without the automatic winder. I still sometimes take if off my write just to watch the movement. They didn’t have it on a bracelet in the shop so they ordered it in for me, which took about two weeks.

I had seen Rolex before but had always thought they we’re unobtainable. After trying on everything in the Omega case during that first trip my salesperson asked if there was anything else i wanted to try on. I tried a GS Snowflake and then he asked if I wanted to try any of the Rolex models. He was very upfront that they weren’t for sale but only demo models but I tried on several and fell in love with the sub date and the DJ. When i picked up my Speedy I put my name on the list for a sub and “ordered” a DJ41. He said it could be as soon as 2 months or quite a lot longer.

I sent a hand-written thank you note a week after pricing up the Speedy.

Since that meeting I’ve made it a point to stop in to the shop about every six weeks or so, always wearing the Speedy. Sometimes I’d just have a cup of coffee and look at straps for the Speedmaster sometime’s I’d explicitly ask to try the sub or the DJ again. I always called or emailed ahead to make sure “my guy” was in. During this time I met the watchmaker for the shop, and one of the owners. Several people in the shop know my name when I pop in now.

I can’t recommend Richter & Phillips enough. Watching the grey market pricing dip in recent weeks I got very close to pulling the trigger on a 126610LV I’d had my eyes on. I reached out to the watchmaker at the shop who walked me through his pre-purchase inspection process and costs and was very responsive. As it happens the day I decided to pull the trigger on the sub after sleeping on it was the day I got the call.

As I said I’m love with my new DateJust, I’m still in love with my Speedy too. I’m thankful to all the posts on here that have helped me through the evaluation process and the purchase process. This is a new passion for me, its great to hear other’s stories as I’ve gotten started.

Cheers all, much appreciated!
Congrats, I bought a TT GMT Master from Richter Phillips in the early 80s. I have popped in there occasionally and am in touch with three of the sales guys there. One guy I met two years ago while on a quest for a grail watch and the other two are guys I knew at a previous Rolex AD. Very good people there!!

Congratulations! That white dial is so clean and crisp. The fluted jubilee combo is the best imho.
