Yes, this will certainly help and I mentioned that in my last sentence "The damping provided by the watch box will help to increase x and therefore reduce the impact consequence". Maybe that was not clear enough.

Falling from 1 m height, the same watch will see a negative acceleration of about -443 g if it comes to rest on a floor in 0.01 s. I do not know how long this stopping time really is, but 0.01 s seems reasonable for a hard bathroom floor; a soft carpet is certainly an advantage because you have more damping, the deceleration takes more time, and the forces are smaller. In good approximation one can neglect the air friction for this dropping watch, which will slightly reduce its velocity.

The potential damage to the watch I cannot calculate since it depends on many parameters, e.g., the material properties, the impact angle, does it drop onto the bracelet or the crown or the glass?

I hope that answers your question?
Thank you!

So that is considerably less than the 5000G test that Rolex claims as a benchmark.

Yes and No.

One needs to look into the details of this Rolex crash test, from rolex.com:

"This exclusive shock-testing equipment submits the watch to an impact equivalent to 5,000 G."

Impact equivalent! To be clarified what that means exactly. Maybe a part of the watch becomes accelerated for a very short time to 5000 g?

I think that is not at all comparable with a watch hitting a bathroom floor.

I do think we need to know exactly which box your watch was in.

Are we talking about the green fancy end user box and if so was it in its carboard proection outer wrapping(s).

Or .... Was it perhaps in what some people call it's "Coffin" - Thats the one with polystyrene in it giving the watch quite a bit of protection. Thats possibly why Rolex ship their new watches and some serviced watches in the "coffins".

This is what a "Coffin" looks like ...

The “coffins” are rarely given out by AD’s anymore.

It's funny because sourcing one and an OEM bezel guard on eBay is a cheap ordeal. I don't know why the AD thinks this is preventing something.

I agree But the OP has had his watch a little while and may have managed to get one from his AD.

I managed, so others can also.
