Whilst where being honest....... As you all know very well there's always 2 sides to a story, my partner gets annoyed at my spending habits and occasional financial irresponsibility! So I'll work on that and maybe it wont be such an issue once I do get one!

So do I sell the Mini-Sub now and be halfway to my goal and go watchless? Or reach the goal and then sell it off, even if that means the watch is a bit rougher with marks on it from desk diving etc and I dont get as much for it? What would you do?
How much could a few more wear marks possibly take from the price of the watch? I'd keep it and be happy until my savings plan came full circle

I have a saying: "Buy the best and you only cry once." I had the cash on hand, I charged the watch figuring I would pay it off over time but I ended up paying it off right away. Having zapped all my credit cards I do not want to go back there again and pay all that interest!

The time to buy is when you lose sleep at night because you do not have. That works for watches, pets, spouses, and jobs.

Go for it.

Very simple Amamda. I only buy what I can afford. The SS Sub Date is THE watch that got me hooked when I was a child and is the one I wear daily. I always told myself that if I were ever in the position to buy a Rolex, this would be the one, and it is. I would love to have a Plat/SS YM, but knowing it would cause tension in the marriage I don't even think about it. Maybe someday I'll be fortunate enough to buy it, but if not it won't be a disapointment to me because I already have the one I wanted for so long.

Not even my managing director (we are a $200 million plus branch) wears a watch in that price range. But he always wears bespoke suits and shirts.
I've had the same thing happen to me Frans. Someone at lunch one day a few years ago pointed it out in front of everyone else there and figured it was a fake. I tried to downplay the situation but after the person in question realised it was real went on and on about how could you afford it, being a mailman and all?

If that ever happens I just point out how the other people go out and spend (and later throw up) hundreds of $$$ in a single night out, or put stupid plastic bits on their cars etc etc

Works for me

I think what boggles my mind is that people will go and spend thousands on a flat screen TV that will last, what, 4-5 years, so they can watch larger versions of inane "entertainment" but won't spend the same money on a mechanical marvel that will last a lifetime and beyond.

Agreed, Ed...but to virtually 99% of the people out there, a watch is there to merely tell time. And we wonder why the quartz industry and the crap they produce is so dominant all over the world!!

When you consider what the average guy spends on booze and smokes in a year without realising it its scary. I don't smoke and rarely drink so thats extra cash for my other indulgences..

The new Sony PS3 is going to be about £400 and £65 per game. TV's cost serious cash etc etc. Its all relative.

Oh JJ, time to change your avatar dude.. Yammy has left the building!
