I’ve come full circle. After wearing sports Rolex (and Patek) for the past 20 years, I now enjoy my datejust more than any other.

I’m wearing my 16200 as I read this.

With the different sizes and options it’s truly a watch for every taste and occasion.

Plus, the two-tone date just champagne dial is probably considered THE rolex.

Yet, the watch is constantly overlooked. It's the most versatile watch in that it comes in the most dial, bracelet, bezel, and size combinations. There is truly a datejust for everyone and for every occasion, something that cant be said of most other watches in the catalogue.

The shifting Rolex market/hype machine of the last few years has really exacerbated the lack of love the datejust gets. The Datejust 41 is a bit of an exception to this, particularly blue dial fluted, but I digress. With so many people looking to "investments" and "appreciation" the date just obviously doesn't reach the heights of sports models like the GMT or Daytona. Perhaps thats a good thing though!

Don’t currently own a 36 mm DJ but have owned a few already (16234, 116200, 116264) as love the size and style. Had also owned other 36mm Rolexes (116000, 114270) and Tudors (94200, 76200), still own these two:

Love the Datejust. Owned quiet a few in my lifetime.. own a blue dial datejust2 currently and don't understand y it's so disliked.. dont really care as I love the size and wouldn't ever go back to a 36 unless it's a DD. ..but y no love for the Datejust 2 ..but all the love in the world for the blue dial sky dweller which looks very similar to a datejust2? But only bigger and ofcourse I'm very aware about the complications the watch offers

As others stated… it’s not overlooked. It’s only overlooked here at TRF

I gave my wife the catalog and told her to choose what she wanted

She choose a DJ36 on jubilee, white stick dial, steel and gold.

TRF is a bubble, isolated from the tastes of the general public, and especially at this particular time, it is also isolated from history.

I agree!

I bought my current Rolex TT DJ 16013 new 35 years ago. I had previously owned and sold two other DJs, a TT 1601 and a SS 1630. But since I bought this one in 1987, it's been my only Rolex. During the first 20 years it truly was my everyday-watch, and I was pretty rough on it. In 2009, it was overhauled at the RSC in Lititz, PA and required a new replacement bracelet. It was overhauled in Lititz, PA again earlier this year and required a new replacement mid-case (with new S/N) and case back. It truly looks and feels just like it did the day I bought it. A classic made new again. I expect it to serve me for another 30 years or 'til death do us part.

I dislike the cyclops but I feel on a DJ it has to be there. Not a thing wrong with any DJ model. They look amazing on a strap and on the bracelet.

Agreed. I’ve always wanted a Datejust since the first time noticing one as a kid. I didn’t know what type of watch it was, but I was mesmerized by the sweeping seconds hand and the jubilee bracelet.

Now in my 30s I’ve purchased numerous watches but none scratches that itch of wanting a Rolex. I never wanted a Rolex for the status symbol, but for the aesthetics of the oyster case and the bracelets. I wanted a waterproof/robust watch that would last a lifetime, and that can be worn with anything.

I placed interest in a blue 126200 last December and received the call in February. The comfort of the jubilee bracelet still amazes me.

I love DJ’s….DJ36, DJII, and the DJ41.

Some configurations are not exactly to everyone’s taste but thankfully they make (or have made) pretty much every configuration you’d want for this type of watch.

I agree with the previous opinions posted about the forum bubbles.

If I only had 3 Rolexes for example, it certainly wouldn’t be 3 variations of a sub….but that’s what you see on forums all the time.

In the end, buy what you like…

My favourite watch by a long way. The choice the DJ gives you is amazing. Choose what you like and wear it.

It's possible the DJ will be my next purchase. There are so many variations, and a bit more attainable than a sports model right now. I already have a Sea Dweller, so a DJ just makes sense. I'm enjoying the pictures in this thread

I appreciate the DJ's crown setting. I mean when you set the time, it seems to rotate much faster than other models and it always feel smooth. This is subjective and only from a few examples but that's my view.

I agree. The fluted bezel and jubilee are way too flashy for my tastes. Here’s my 36mm.

Datejusts are nice but the quintessential/perfect Rolex is the Day-Date…

I love it. Borrowed my friend's 36mm classic 80's DJ last summer and wrote about it here. Check it out.
https://luxurywatches635.wordpress.c...atejust-16013/

I love it but it's just too small for me. I have 18.5cm wrist. It doesn't work.

But if you have smaller wrists it's perfect watch. Here's my friend's watch with a wristie. Amazingly beautiful.

Datejust is my favorite as well!
Jubilee, fluted, clean, simple, and comes in 36mm which is absolutely my best suited size at a 5.75” wrist. Sadly a lot of watches I like with Rolex are no where near having a 36mm option like the sub, the GMT, etc.

I also love the Explorer I for a lot of the same reasons I like the Datejust: clean, and small.

Same here. This is why I bought the SubC-noDate.
Not sure who, I am OK with a cyclop in a DJ41.
