When I got the call for my 39mm Explorer a while back I ran straight to the AD. I was not feeling well at all.

Got the watch, put it on, and then quickly ran to the mall bathroom... Clearly not a special occasion but such is life.

I totally get your point. But I would wear it ASAP, if you can fight the urge why not? To each their own..

Wow, I thought I was one of the only people who did this haha.

For a Tissot Le Locle (dress watch), I first wore it at a black tie event.

For a Hamilton Khaki Field, I first wore it on a hike up a mountain

For my Baltic Aquascaphe, I first wore it Snuba Diving (it's like scuba diving but you have a long 20 foot air hose that goes to the top)

For my Sternglas Selecta, I wore for the first time in Hawaii.

It might be stupid, but I love the "inauguration" day thinking and it's part of my process and fun of purchasing a watch.

I don’t get it.

I especially don’t get it for a funeral.

Why put sad memories to a watch? Every time you look at it you’ll think of the funeral for whom it was that meant a lot to you.

Sorry for your loss op.

Wear it like spare change waiting some occasion is like saving sex for old age.

I get it. But for me, it's more of a delayed gratification thing versus manufacturing an association between the watch and a memory.

I recently bought a nice rose gold VC Overseas dual time, but I told myself I am not going to wear it until I resolve a situation with a deadbeat client who refuses to pay me for a job magnificently done.

Yes, it's a bit nonsensical, but we all have our hangups lol

Thanks.
Not “emotional nonsense” to many of us here. Rolexes are special. They link us to special memories and hold significant meaning.

Now guys who “catch and release,” flip, invest, use their watch to impress probably disagree.

To some, this may sound silly... to me, not so much.
My delay in wearing it was for the initial wearing, now it's fair game on any day.

I like wearing a new watch soon after I get it, but like someone else said - it goes into the rotation and gets worn whenever I feel like it.

I wore my first brand new Rolex out of the AD. No special occasion. I own multiple watches I just pick up which ever one I feel that day or I pick whichever one still has power.

Now we have to have a special occasion to wear a new watch?

I guess my special occasion was going to the Orange Julius for a smoothie after leaving the AD...

I wear it out of the AD and I keep wearing it until I’m bored and then I buy another one. The day I buy the watch is the special say.

I usually pay for it and have them size it for me and wear it out of the store. I immediately start enjoying my watches! I wear my Rolexes every single day

I've purchased pieces to mark an occasion. I've worn specific pieces during special events. I don't have special occasion only pieces.

a watch is just that- a watch; wrist companion.

wear it everyday, come what may- be it good, or bad.

i wear mine in the morning, to try and win the day.

I sort of get where the OP is coming from. I just wear em out of the boutique and keep them in for a few days then just part of the rotation. Nothing is sacred, they all get wrist time.

To be honest, I do. It's a watch. Yes, a very, VERY nice watch...but still, just a watch, nonetheless.

More honesty, if I get a new watch and don't just have the insatiable urge to put it on a wear it right away, I know it's not for me. My two cents.

My thought process:

I buy the watch.
I wear the watch out the store.

Maybe there was a significant event at the time of purchase or I may have just "got the call" for a model I was waiting on.

It really does not matter as I got a new watch and I want to wear it.

Simple as that.
