A question of tact.

I am meeting a high school friend I have not seen in like 17 years. He was a watch nut since we were kids growing up-he had the first Tag I had ever seen and years later bought on to start my collection. The thing is from the talks we have had on the phone I have done a bit better for myself than he has. I don't want to look like I am showing off or being boastful so should I leave the watches home?
I am told I come off a bit abrasive at times so I don't want to compound the issue.
Any suggestions. I was thinking of wearing the SS Sub because he is a watch guy but I feel I might seem like I'm rubbing it in his face which is not the kind of person I am.
