We have a long history going back several years. Whatever I have asked her for, she has delivered. I’m not saying I will get a Daytona in six months, but much sooner than most people might anticipate.

I am very interested. I’m not sure why you would say that. I am just vacillating and trying to solicit some input on the matter.

I like chronographs. The busy look of the dial, the extra pushers, the function even if I don’t use it alot. I have had a bunch of chronographs including four SS Daytonas from different series.
The black dial 116500 I got after a nine month wait in 2019 was $12400 at the time, the most expensive watch I’ve ever bought out of 30+ years worth. Honestly not sure I would ask for one now, $2150 higher than when I bought mine with zero changes.
That said mine is in regular rotation and worn often. I wouldn’t even think of buying one as an occasional piece.

I don't think it looks small. I think its well proportioned and really comfortable. Even in PM. Nestles into the wrist great and very smooth and curvy. And the overall look is great. It's a terrific looking watch. Very tool-ish.

Now this will sound weird. But I couldn't wrap my head around the idea of the large seconds hand basically being frozen in place unless the chrono is running. You look down and it looks like your watch has stopped (The small sub dial moving isn't that prominent.)

The screw down pushers are fiddly. And when activating them it doesn't feel... good. That's the only way I can describe it. The feel is totally different than a speedy which feels meant to be used.

Kinda hard to discern the time at a glance too.

I appreciate that none of this might matter if you just like the look. It's a terrific looking piece.

You sound like you are into it for the right reasons, some like it for the hype which I think is wrong as trends change and whats hyped one minute is out of vogue the next. I have wanted a daytona since the 116500 came out in 2016. I put my name on the list back then and am still waiting, I think I just may buy it grey market as its been almost 6 years. If you have the chance to grab it at an AD in a reasonable time I'd say go for it. Another thing thats great about the daytona is it has one of the finest automatic chronograph movements out there at that price point (4130) heres a article about it here:

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/a-...-present-pt-23

I also understand your worry about price, even if you pay 15k for it you still need it insured and that will be at 30-35k so expect a hefty insurance premium. All in all you only live once, go for, worst case you fall out of love and you sell it for more than you paid for it which is still a win.

I’m in the same camp OP. Though no chance at an AD so I’d have to trade for it. But I like what I’ve got. If I had a shot at retail I’d take it. If you don’t enjoy it, you’ll be just fine figuring out a solution. Go for it so long as finances allow.

Meh. If that were the case I would buy it and sell for MSRP to a friend of forum member versus hoping some rich stranger could snag for his collection or flip for a profit.

OP, I like your line of thinking. The Daytona will be a great compliment to the Panerai (I am guessing 111 or 005). The Daytona is heaven for me on the wrist. I am also at 7.25” and find it great on size. Truly a classic and I think sexy case.

Hello my friend !

Excellent subject, it brings me back down to earth a little as I no longer have too many financial limits and I get lost, without landmarks.
So a person who holds talks, it's great and an 116400 can quite satisfy us just as a Daytona rainbow can leave us disappointed.

Going back to the Daytona, I think you can buy it without a second thought at the MSRP.
I had several and only the 116519LN (Oysterflex) remained. Like you, I have little use for complications, when I feel, I start the chrono just to let the big hand sail. Nothing more useless than a chrono to me.
It is doing well and its case is the most beautiful of all the production for me, finesse, roundness and proportions.
The movement, technically, is very interesting, a big plus.

Thank's for this thread !!!! 😍😍

Great watch no doubt. Sounds like you’re pretty sold on it. Wait it out with your AD. You’ll forget about the price once it’s on your wrist.

Pro:

Iconic design, clean and visually pleasing
Rolex‘ nicest digits in the lineup
Wears nicely due to the slimmer dimensions vs. the other tool watches
Hacking seconds
Sturdy and robust

Cons:

Tachymeter scale completely useless and cluttering the display unnecessarily
Impractical for daily use due to the screwed in pushers
No date
Taking into account 2 & 3, not really any useful complication
No flyback

Personal conclusion: nice if available either at retail or at a modest premium if really desired, otherwise a tad overhyped. Deal breakers for me personally the lacking date, and the Tachymeter scale, which I found not adding to the watch‘ otherwise sleek design. The GMT has the more useful complication, and the Sky dweller has a similar design which in terms of usability trumps both. Forgot to add: no flyback, which is okay for an MSRP, but a slap in the face if bought at 30k

You should definitely go for it.. Even though you think you have a chance to get it, you may end up getting offered a different variation of it.. There are MANY, MANY people who want that white dial stainless steel Daytona at your AD. Whoever is in charge of things there has to decide who they all go to, and why, and so on.. My point is, make it clear NOW that you want it and want to start that process of waiting for it.. Tell them even if it means you can’t get any other watch until then, say that’s fine and you’ll politely wait. Check in often

I say all this as if I know what I’m talking about from experience which I do have the stainless steel Daytona, bought from my AD, but it has the black dial.. HOWEVER, I was just told I’m finally due for the next white one..!! So I really look forward to posting a thread for y’all sometime soon hopefully. (It was tough the other day when I got told one came in, but that it wasn’t for me, but that I would definitely be getting my turn for that call really soon)

I really do agree with you here. I have a larger wrist, I dont measure it but I wear a watch right out the box from Rolex without removing any links and its the perfect fit ! Sometimes I have to mess with the micro adjust or easy link depending, but just saying I don’t have to remove any links. Now, with that said, I dont have any fat on my arms/wrist what so ever due to my lifestyle.. So that detail may make a difference, but I was just going to say it sounds like my wrist is alittle larger than yours because the Rolex bracelet size with all links on sport models are made to comfortably fit a 7.75 inch wrist So I guess that’s what I have.. Point being, my Daytona wears great on me and seems to wear very closely similar to my GMTs

Imho the Black SS version is downright the most wearable watch in the Rolex lineup. Oysterflex, super jubilee, or traditional oyster bracelet give nice options… go for it!

Stop to think.

You need to see it in person. You need to try it on your wirst .
And then you will know. We are too influenced by hype and hard to get stuff.
We shoud focus more on what we love.
I just bought a Hublot Meca-10 I was dreaming since 4 years. Made me feel better than my Olive Daydate wich is worn by my wife because I coudnt bond with it.

The Daytona is a beautiful watch, but it's nearly impossible to actually read the time on it. Take a pass on it.

I also started with Panerai back in 2006. Love the size and feel of the logo base! I really have no need for a date, or for that matter a second hand. While I like the Daytona design, the size has been a non-starter for me. Maybe that will change, but for now the size, feel, and design of the 126660 JC makes it the perfect watch for me.

My wrist size is 6.5-inch.
I actually went there to try on a DJ41-white-fluted-Oystersteel which I ordered from a AD (the AD has no display model). I wanted to check if my small wrist can wear a DJ41.

I am not sure if my advice will help you or confuse you even more. However, this is what I think now. Couple of years ago I didn’t care for Daytona, and I even wrote a post here saying Daytona doesn’t attract me at. I thought just like everyone here “it’s too small, it’s hard to read, I don’t need chronograph complication, doesn’t have date “ etc. Over the time that changed. Not only that it changed but I even acquired one last monts from my AD (have a great relationship). It is a beautiful piece and to me it doesn’t wear small even though I have 7.5” wrist. Even my friends, watch nerds like me, made the same comment. One of them is 6’4 with 7.75” wrist and he loved it.
However, I do agree that bracelet with PCL will scratch easier then brushed links.
Hope this help!

I must say I much prefer the panda to the black in terms of readability. This is the one Daytona I could see myself wanting, however, given it’s impossible to get at an AD and probably will be forever, not much hope of that happening, as rather than spending what it cost on the secondary market, I would just buy PM.

Not looking to discuss “well you could always flip it for a profit” or just get a Tudor instead.

Here are my reservations:

-15K is a lot of money to have on my wrist. I am not exactly rich. I can afford the watch but not as easily as some members here. It is funny how you can talk yourself into higher and higher priced watches. My current daily wear is a 14 year old Panerai that I bought used for 3K. I love it and it does exactly what I need it to do (keep accurate time and make me smile). I bought my Sub for $7,500 and my DJ41 for $10,250. Even with the DJ it just felt really expensive to have on my wrist.

-I have no use for the additional complications. I do not even like a date complication on my watches. The extra bells and whistles look cool on the Daytona, but I would never actually use them.

-I realize many people swim with their Daytonas. However I would not feel comfortable doing so considering the value.

-Love the look of the PCL’s on the Oyster bracelet, but also understand that they scratch easily.

-i have a 7.25” wrist and larger than average hands and arms. Not huge by any stretch but I have heard many report that the Daytona “wears small”. I do appreciate some wrist presence and chunkier watches.

-Although I fantasize that this could be my grail watch, that could likely change.

Any thoughts or feedback appreciated.
IMO, no, over-hyped watch, a few watches of Rolex that I won’t buy, sorry just me.
