Is the sub boring or perfect?

I started out in watches wanting anything but not a Rolex. Then ok maybe a Rolex but not a Sub. Now out of my ten Rolex five are Subs (four no dates)!

The Sub is hands down the best watch they make. It's like walking into VW, you can spend way more but the Golf is the best car they do and the benchmark for absolutely everyone else.

Wearing this today and to my eye it's utterly beautiful.

The watches look pretty much exactly the same as they always have with only slight adjustments. Which is boring. But they are right not to change because they are already perfect

I feel like perfect and boring is the goal for Rolex. Just keep making them as they are and people will buy them

Perfection is boring, sadly. That is the crux of human nature, our thrive for change. That is the reason why we can never be satisfied with even perfection.

It's not boring. It's a classic. A Burberry trenchcoat from the 40s looks very similar to one from the 80s or 2000s. That's timeless.

A Rolls Royce from the 60s or 80s is just as beautiful driving down the road today as it was back then and doesn't look evergreen remotely out of place. Pardon me, would you please pass the Grey Poupon?

A simple and elegantly thin Patek or JLC or ALS dress watch more or less looks the same today as it did 50 years ago.

All are timeless classics. Many Rolex models are the same way. Subs, Datejusts, Oyster Perpetuals, GMTs, just to name a few.

Sub no date is possibly the best watch in the world.

It’s totally boring. But a fantastic watch. That’s why I have my sights on the LV version. Thankfully I like green and I don’t see too many of those in the wild

It’s a great one and only watch. It’s even better when part of a diverse collection.

Interesting to see everyone’s take her. My problem with the SS sub is that they are EVERYWHERE. Unfortunately its a turnoff for me

It can be all those words described together all at once. Why not?
It's balanced, perfect even, but boring and ubiquitous because of that. It's a victim of its own success in a way.

It got me thinking. Is the sub so popular because of it's versatility or is it so common now that it's become a little dull vs other references?

For context I was wearing an SD43. I appreciate it shouldn't matter what other people wear but it just seemed a little "samey".
Well, the SD43 is a far superior watch by any measure. So sure, Subs will seem pedestrian. Sub guys!

Seriously though, Subs (like any watch) are special in the owner’s eyes, and that’s what matters.

I agree. A Sub needs some color whether it be on the dial or bezel.

I find all Rolex divers to be extremely versatile, exciting and unique. Variations are good to please every taste and suit every wrist. They are icons.

The. Sub. Is. Perfect.
Not anymore they dont. One was sold today for 13.3. Thats roughly 2k more. Imagine selling it to a grey dealer and you be lucky if you get extra 500 for it. even a cermit is barely making it 1.5x more.

The problem with most of us, if not all of us, is that we are watch addicts. Any watch can and will get boring, since watches is what we occupy and overload our free time with. Common folks will usually buy a nice watch, like a Sub, put it in their wrist, and go one with their life. But we, on the other hand, will stare at our damn wrist 300 times a day, and then wonder why we became bored of said watch. Heck, even the nicest/most complex time pieces are going to get boring after awhile, and they do. That is why you hear of folks trading away their grail AP’s, Rolex Platona’s (and other heavy hitters), FP Journe’s for other pieces in a repeated cycle. You’ll never be fully satisfied in this hobby unfortunately. In conclusion; the Sub is not boring, you’re boring

Sub is a lifestyle!
I have other Rolex models in my collection, but Sub is always my favorite.
Wouldn't trade it for any other watch in the world.

Would you take a Daytona for your Sub? 1:1 trade

Never but never say never unless it really means something special and it is related with an event, person, etc --> but even then everything has a "price"
