I would not. You have it covered with your watch and it has been discontinued so much more collectable in the long run.

Negotiate harder.

Personally, I enjoy the ceramic bezel look and durability way more than the steel bezels.

Really? Please tell me where I can buy a 116500 for $11k.

$14,450 + 7.75% tax in CA = $15,570
That’s MSRP plus tax. Your only off by $4,570.

For most people, MSRP is a fantasy or at least 5 years away, when retail price will be over $20k, adding tax, they will be nearly twice $11k.

One other thing to consider. The Daytona might move to 126500 in 2023 due to 60th anniversary, which would make the 116500 price spike a LOT!

I do like the 116520, but it ran for 16 years, so there’s quite a few of them out there, and the SS bezel is definitely not going to be as durable as cerachrome. I like the upgrade idea, with black worth about $5-6k more and white adding another $4-5k in today’s market, so I don’t think the trade is that far off.

No way.

Prefer the older ones anyway.

But for that money? Not a chance.

This is up to you OP. I do NOT like steel bezels. Ceramic is way better aesthetically IMO. Seems to be unpopular opinion but I’d def switch.

Not sure the difference these days in price but if 11k is fair, go for it.

While I agree with the majority that it does not seem worth an $11k difference, I disagree with those acting like they are basically the same watch or that few people could tell a difference. Silver bezel versus black bezel is a night and day change to the look of the watch... not to mention dial color.

I would not, have always preferred the all steel version, black or white dials.

I would sell your 520 to get the most money put of it. Then go find deals and buy them 116500. Guarantee you would have a lot less than 11k.

Also I have both 520 and 500. Have to admit that 500 get the most wrist time comparing both. It just the look of white dial with black sub dial on the Panda has a super cool contrast. even among all my GMTs I still love the ceramic daytona. The way that ceramic bezel reflect is also a mile cooler than the steel bezel.500 is just an amazing watch. No question why people are crazy about them. And when they discontinue this model the price will go through the roof!! Get it when you can.

sure the different is noticeable. plus OP is talking about upgrading to the panda, so even more different look. the panda look more sharp and would catch lots of attention!

There are two things mixed up: White dial vs. black dial, and steel bezel vs. ceramic bezel.

1. Dial: White, of course, looks completely different than black, it is in fact the opposite. You have to decide what you prefer. I personally prefer black, but I am happy to own both.
2. Steel bezel vs. ceramic bezel: I do not agree with some people saying that this is a minor change. In my opinion, it is a game changer because the watch looks really completely different. I peronally never liked the polished steel bezel (but again that's my taste), so I didn't hesitate to trade my two 116520 black and white for the same 116500's.

To the question about value, or is it worth it: Of course, when you look at it from a material standpoint, it is not worth it; I think the steel bezel is even more costly to produce than the ceramic one. But it DOES definitely change the look and feel of the watch, so if you like the new look, and if it makes you happy every day you look at the watch >> Go for it! I did it, and no regrets.

I am lucky enough to have both.

Personally I prefer the 116500LN, but not my that amount of money.

Get on a list and hopefully get lucky!

Agree. I would always want the Ceramic bezel. That said the black dial with steel is a good looking combo IF the bezel stays prestine and the markers don't fade.

Love both versions and the 11k difference is unrealistic as some will prefer previous generation.

It would be worth it to me if the 116500 were new and from an AD.

White 116500 has a big wow factor but I think steel black dial 116520 is more versatile and transitions to formal wear better. White 116500 is quite sporty. More of a weekend watch for me…

I own both, black 116520 and white 116500LN. I would not part with neither

Take that 11K and add to your collection instead. Having both might hurt a little more financially, but worth it in my opinion. There’s still something to be said about owning a Daytona that is no longer in production.

FFS the argument was that it's basically the same watch, not that people are so short witted they couldn't literally tell them apart....

the photo just re enforces that the 520 is a more handsome watch.
No way in hell would I give that plus $11K away for the ceramic version.
