If your heart is set on the sub, the yachty won’t be able to curb your desire.

I’d wait unless you love the YM as much as you love the sub. If so, buy it, because it may get you closer to getting the call for your sub.

Do you have a nice watch to wear now ? If so then wait for the watch you really want .

You could roll the dice and switch to YM. I'd switch only if the YM was available now .

I too prefer the YM to a Sub and also prefer Bluesy or Starbucks as alternatives. Also not all YMs are the same. I've had five and six digit subs but like a bit more color in my life. Which YM dial were you looking at?

I'm lucky enough to have both, the sub I've had for 25 years and the YM about a year. I like them both, but I'm somewhat bored of the sub and I currently prefer the YM.

Wait. As others have said, after the YM purchase, you'll still want the Sub. If you get the Sub first, you'll totally forget about the YM.

It depends. If you have always wanted a sub (like for years) then only a sub will do. On the other hand if the sub was what got you into the AD and the YM caught your eye that might be your watch. I'm a sub owner and wanted one half my life, so I was super happy when I finally got one. That being said I've always liked the YM.

The YM is a nicer watch. And makes you not just another sub wearer...

I have both the Submariner (ND) as well as the YM 40 Rhodium. Of course it is a personal choice, but they are very different watches. The YM is by far the most comfortable watch that I own. Wears close to the wrist, and wears smaller than the Sub. More like a Daytona fit. The submariner is a classic, but the YM is more versatile, and can be casual or dressy. If you had your heart set on the Sub, you should probably wait. In my case, the YM was offered first, so I took it, and got the Sub about 18 months later. Good luck and congrats. You can't go wrong.

Stick with what you really want. Don’t buy something you don’t want in the hopes of it helping you get offered something you do want.

My take on the Sub vs. the YM boils down to this (tongue in cheek):

Take the blue pill, buy a pedestrian and utilitarian looking black Sub. Sleep with the peace of mind you have what everybody else wants. If all aspire to own one, it must be good, right? Stay in the numbing and reassuring beaten path. Follow the social media influencers for inspiration on your choices in watches.

Take the red pill, buy the Yacht-Master and step into another dimension, a world of connoisseurs who understand the subtleties and sophistication of such an exquisite and elegant sports timepiece. Appreciate its rounded case edges and curvaceous lugs embracing your wrist to perfection. Enjoy the convenience of its butter-smooth bi-directional bezel. Most won’t agree with your choice but you don't follow the herd. Instead, you are your own boss and need nobody's validation and pat on the shoulder. You are now at the turning point separating men from boys.

Muahahahahahahaha!

Agree with those who say wait. If you are after a sub then the Yachtmaster won't make you happy. It is just a new shiny object and that shine will wear off.

If the sub was offered instead of the YM40 then would you think twice about the YM?

Get the seadweller. easier to get than a sub and a better watch. It wears comfortable too reguardless of what people say.

Wait on the Submariner from your AD or purchase a 40 or 41mm Submariner elsewhere if you specifically want a Submariner. There's currently an 114060 listed in the sales section for under $10,000 and it's still not selling, so these watches are really coming down in price.

There is no substitute.

But not on the YM40 which is the reference the OP is referring to. Huge price difference too.

The Yachtmaster is under appreciated in my humble judgement, but the only opinion that counts, OP, is yours.
