If I had to choose I'd keep my BLNR. It is both the most day to day functional for me as well as my most meaningful watch.

Exact same for me.

I’d probably opt for the diver reference, that’s what I always seem to gravitate to

Certainly my SD 16600

All subsequent references (ceramic) are wonderful but none of them give me a "definitive" feeling

If it had to be Rolex, it would be my BLNR.

If it had to be one watch, it would not be a Rolex

“One-Watch collection” philosophy

I had an IWC Mark XV as my only watch for many years and didn't feel miserable whatsoever.

As of today, if it had to be a Rolex, I'd have to get one finally.

If it had to be one watch, I would keep said IWC Mark XV or the 5711 blue.

No steel, if one-and-done.
If it has to be a Rolex, YM40 rose, for me.
Why? It will look good on my daughter when I’m gone.

I have a ND Sub on order, so that's my choice.

I only own 3 other watches; Cartier, Oris, and Seiko. Depending on what you consider to be "inexpensive," the Oris and Seiko could stay. The Cartier is a wedding gift, so that's a no-doubt keeper. Guess my collection would stay intact!

“One-Watch collection” philosophy

If I didn’t already have an heirloom, and it had to be a modern Rolex, it would be the model that put a wide smile on my face the first time I saw it.

Luckily for me. I don’t need to theorize if it will work as a daily do everything watch. I already know it will.

It has followed me to depths of various oceans, the summit of mountains, the dark reaches of caves, and even through mundane formal events.

Its been worn over a wet suit, under the cuff of a tailored suit, and heck even no suit.

It would be the Z-Blue

SD43, the perfect one and done watch to me. Best looking black diver there is, perfect size for my wrist, feels special enough hence not too boring. Divers are my favourite genre and black is versatile.

There are more exciting watches in my collection like the TT blue Sub, or more understated ones like the YM pt dial. However, if I can only keep one, then the Sea-Dweller strikes the right balance, thinking long term. I would terribly miss my other two though, I don't really believe in a single luxury watch. I need variety and rotation to keep the flame alive.

I've debated this a lot over the years...and always land on the Black SS Sub Date.

Option 3 neither fancy or plain. Acquired 23 years ago for its intended purpose and easily one and only if I had to choose.

For me it would definitely be my blue Sky-Dweller. Although I do love my Daytona’s and other bits the Sky-Dweller has it all. Plus I have a rather large wrist ( 3 links added ) so prefer the size without the added heft of my SD43

Easy choice for me

New explorer in 36mm is sporty enough for everyday wear. Smaller and dressy enough for most occasions.
Insanely comfortable with zero wrist fatigue under any conditions

To this day I’m still staggered that they went back to the smaller size - but very happy they did

..Explorer & Spring Diver - I’m just here for the photos..

Well, darn it, you kinda already sold the answer to this question. IIRC, you don't have a particularly huge wrist. Why sell the 36mm Exp and now look at 39mm versions??
