Went to my AD about 10 days ago. In the case, and for sale - confirmed as my AD said, "look, we have watches in the case for sale! - was one DJ 41mm, 3 Lady DJs, and a 40mm SS Yachtmaster.

I then asked about a GMT. Still a substantial wait, it seems. And I do have a decent purchase history.

That's exactly what happened with my latest acquisition. It was not out for general sale but it was available to me, and I'm certainly no whale in terms of spend. Two previous Rolexes and a little bit of jewelry for the Mrs.
They may not go back in the case for a long time. First, we will see the ADs willing to sell to anyone but still creating a sense of scarcity, with a lot more next-day “guess what just came in?!?!” calls to potential buyers who walked in on a lark. Make them feel special. Rolex will be how new customer relationships begin, as opposed to being loyalty/spend awards.

It took 2 years to reach peak insanity. It will take more than a couple months to bottom out. The people who have over priced stock will try and manage the decline best they can but the prices will continue to decline for all of 2023.

This goes across all assets that went absolutely crazy in the last 24 months.

The high MSRP here is the norm in this part of the world unfortunately, but still at their high asking prices the watches are never available, so it is new to have them on display and available. Didn't ask about the Sea Dweller, but the SubD asking was 38,000dirhams.

Is that not fairly standard market pricing? Is 38k dirhams just over $10k or £8k? That sounds reasonably aligned with US and U.K. MSRP’s.

And which AD was this? California is such a tough market, I am curious.

Even IF this is true, one watch at one AD does not a dramatic shift make.

My AD in UK had a sub on display last weekend, I asked to try it on then if I could buy it, they said it was display only and the waiting list for a sub is currently closed.

Now that these are widely available to those who aren’t even on a VIP list, I suddenly no longer want one The lack of prestige is a real drag.

Funny...I only called one broker. $18k. All wrapped up in less than 24 hours. Flipping is still very much alive; don't fool yourself.

Would the average punter looking to flip a GMT have access to such a broker who would give them grey market price? Seems unlikely.

Anyway, GMT are depreciating at around £1000 per month at the moment. You could get a really smart car for that sort of money.

A serious loss for anyone, especially for a grey dealer holding a lot of stock.

Yesterday. Card was only two weeks old, watch was stickered, and it was unsized/unworn. He bought for a client so I assume he left room for himself...didn't ask.

Fair question; all depends on how many brokers one knows...and how "fresh" the card is.

If you flip them, though, by definition you're not holding inventory.

New GMTs still flip easily, especially just before the holidays, but pre-owned is definitely slower. As for "depreciating," I assume you are using the secondary market pricing as baseline, because the one I just sold seems to have appreciated significantly in the two weeks I owned it while trying to decide whether to wear it or not.

So $K15.5AU. RRP is $K14.25AU so I'd take it at that price.......

Chrono24 lists 929 unworn in-stock 126710 for sale, so not sure the average flipper would be able to flip at market price. But the market is so dynamic, it is difficult to generalise

Starting to see Sports models on displays

In Vegas they sell to the 3rd to 5th person on list now vs first call. Passing on steel subs first call becoming more common. Still waiting on an OF Daytona though with a good relationship.

Maybe even harder to generalize about the average flipper. How do we define that? To me it's anyone who resells at a premium the Rolex they just bought at MSRP. Someone, however, buying at secondary prices and trying to resell...that's probably not a flipper, and it's very unlikely they profit (at least right now).

Many brokers out there are more than happy to facilitate a deal and take a $500 cut for their time, without having to lay out any cash. During the boom, that wasn't always the case. But, in reality, connecting buyers and sellers for a small cut is low risk and, if you have the network, easy money.

Not to lose the original point, though; new Rolex sport watches acquired at MSRP are still flipping for tidy profits.

Sorry. This didn’t happen. I have been through there several times over last few weeks and know the sales folks. Only display models.
