You better never turn down a piece from an AD - if offered, you need to buy. If you don’t, they are never going to offer you anything else, as you don’t come across as a serious buyer.

Plus buying a Rolex from an AD at MSRP, you can’t really loose… And you build purchase history for in-demand, tough to get pieces…

Buying a $5000 is not a big deal for MILLIONS of peple.
Or $40,000

They may just not see value in it

I know this is gonna sounds crazy, but I think spending thousands of dollars on something you don’t want is stupid.

I think turning down a piece you have specifically asked for is a bad idea if you want to get offered things later.
Turning down something that’s offered to you randomly? No big deal.

Upped your relationship until they find out you’ve flipped (and in many cases they DO find out), and you get booted.

I’m not a flipper, but think what you like… play the game the right and you’ll win.

100% disagree. Spending tens of thousands on stuff you don’t want, just because an AD offers it, sounds like madness to me.

Some of these comments here are hilarious. When spending $50k+ of my hard earned money, I’m not going to settle for a watch for the sake of building a relationship with the AD. Definitely don’t have disposal income like that and I do not buy to flip.

I was offered a white dial but my heart is set on the rhodium/slate.

It is unfortunate that people feel that they have to buy whatever a dealer offers them. The days of taking whatever you can get, because you can flip it for more are over.

Market is continuing to fall back to where it was 3-4 years ago. I remember walking into my Costco in 2018 and seeing a rose gold Sky with chocolate dial sit there for over 2 months at 38K. The party is over folks, go try and sell just about anything other than a Daytona Panda to a dealer and see what they offer, it will be MSRP or lower on most pieces. That means the flipping game is over and all the wanna be watch dealers will need to get a real job.

in july 2021, i walked in to a vegas AD and bought my wife a DJ36.
I registered interest in a polar explorer 2.
a few weeks later, my AD texted me the 39mm explorer. I passed, telling them i would hold out for the one i wanted.

a few weeks after that, they came through with the watch i wanted.

it's fine to decline.

Ah, maybe an SA working on commissions ?

Buy what you like and not what you're offered. Don't get "played" in the "game".
Now myself...I've never turned done a piece, as I've haven't met a Rolex I didn't like. We'll save that for another thread.

Always worth waiting for the right piece. I’ve passed on watches before, it’s the right move especially at that price range.

Hope this is not true. I have been waiting for a DJ41 for 7 months already. My desired configuration is white-dial, batons, fluted and jubilee but I would go for oystersteel if it is available first.

I have turned down 2 offers already:
1. Smooth bezel. (back in Nov-2022)
2. Roman numerals (last week)

Recently, I saw one with mint green dials here in this forum and I love it. Maybe I will add it……..

I turned down a Sub with Date because I wanted a BLNR or a Sub ND. I eventually got the Sub ND (which turned out to be the updated 124060). I'll buy what I actually want.

Buy what you like. If you expressed interest and they actually put your name down on the I list and your change your interest just let them know. I also wouldn’t worry about them not taking you serious I’m sure even with this market slowing they will find a buyer. Was in my local AD and expressed interest in 36 op back in October. Swung by an AD in a different town mid November and he showed me a DJ 41 and I knew that was what I wanted. Expressed interest and he assured me it would happen. Picked the new DJ 41 up two weeks ago. The first AD has yet to call with any pieces. My plan is to keep my name on the list and if someone I know is interested I will help get them an OP at retail if not I will politely decline.

I turned down a WG Daydate Olive dial last December, and I feel pretty well about it! 2022 was my year for a Sub LV and BBay Pro, not more! By the way, I think every one should start breaking his mental chains with all those BS spending history or "I've been offered" things. Things are changing as most of you mentioned, you just have to ask a grey how much he would buy your watch to realize that the party is over. Cheers!

As long as you can afford it, I can’t get why people will turn down a piece specially if you know you can sell anytime and recoup the value.

Saying that I turned down once a 50th anniversary sea dweller knowing that had I pulled the trigger I wouldn’t have been eligible for a JC deep sea which I wanted at the time. Suffice to say six months later I was offered a JC.

I think if the AD offers something nice with it like a Diet Coke (with ice) I would consider it; otherwise no. For example if the Diet Coke was offered without ice that is a definite no.

lol try telling that to a grey dealer selling rose gold daytona's or meteorite or green dial daytonas, those pieces are never coming close to retail, forget lower than retail
