A lot of people are of the opinion that the new Subs are only jewelry and not sport/tool watches any longer.

the 5513 was the ultimate sports watch for years.

the 14060/M was the final continuation of that lineage IMO.

For those not in the know - preowned 14060's were not that pricey, I paid +/- $3600 for mine a few years ago.

For that price you could strap it on and go do cool stuff without worrying about your "value prop" of your $10k+ watch.

Subjective, but yes Rolex has gone full on fancy/bling compared to older references.

But not everyone is that type of wearer so you are generalizing; which is unfair. Yes, the bezel is a little shiny, but other than that it is just as "sport" and capable of accompanying you while doing "cool stuff". I don't wear my ceramic Subs any differently than my previous aluminum bezeled Subs. Maybe I'm the outlier, but I hate these generalizations because some people on here post threads about worrying about scratches and putting protective plastic on their watch that it is somehow a reflection of the modern watch and not the modern owners.

Great picture of a GREAT classic. It’s hard to make something simple, and the 14060M is perfection. I am partial to the COSC, 4-liner myself.

Trust me I get it, I took a brand spanking new from AD 124060 and sent it to LA Watchworks to have it fully brushed.

Still too shiny.

That said I consider lug holes a requirement for properly securing a strap such as a NATO.

1) Last great Sub with proportions similar to the vintage 4 series references;
2) drilled lug holes;
3) sapphire crystal which adds to practicality/functionality;
4) aluminum bezel (not as shiny or bling like ceramic);
5) substantially lighter than the six digit subs;
6) reliable 3130 movement;
7) 2 liner and 4 liner versions to choose from, including tritium in early 14060 non M reference.
8) only a Sub is no date (there are no M versions with date).
9) superluminova on later models.
10) still one of the best value Subs out there.
11) it’s a strap monster and versatile.

I remember when the no date Sub sold for $3-4k used.

Kicking myself for not buying one then! I do love the new 6 digit Sub for its beauty but you are correct it’s more of a statement piece than tool.

It’s a beautiful watch, does it have the parachrom bleu hairspring? I’ve read posts from the RF and some claim that not all 14060M comes with the updated hairspring.
