When your obsession becomes a compulsion to the extent that it disorders your life then you have OCD. Up until that point you just don’t want to scratch your watch. Don’t try to make simple preference more than it actually is. As for protective tape to prevent scratches try Flex Seal instead. Super protective according to the commercials.

Any scratches you accumulate can be polished out at your first service, if you want them gone.

Not rich at all. Just have enough money to replace my belongings just like everyone else here. We arent buying these watches with our very last $xx,xxx amount of money so we dont need to wrap them in plastic like a grandma's couch.

I vinyl wrapped my BMW K1600B in a different color, and all I saw when I went to the wrap shop was high end exotic sports cars being fully or partially wrapped with clear PPF. So I guess it's okay to protect your 'performance' car, but not for your "tool" watch?
Hypocritical if you ask me.
One thing to consider is that the surface and exposure of a car is not the same as a watch. The car has a thin layer of paint. Rocks can strike it while driving 70mph. That creates a spot that is a different color from the rest of the car and can cause deterioration if not fixed. Plus, refinishing a car is not an easy process.

A watch is a chunk of metal. A ding in metal is still metal with no risk of rusting or progressing to compromise the watch. Buffing it out is as easy as a short trip to RSC if you really want.

If it helps you sleep better at night then have at it with the watch ppf, but life is to short to worry about minor watch scratches IMO. Anything major won’t be stopped by ppf anyway. Just enjoy the watch.

Personally I've never wrapped a watch, a car, a couch, or anything else for that matter. I don't even use a screen protector on my phone as the old ones used to dull the response. I know they're much better nowadays, but I've gotten used to not using them. I just try to take care of my stuff - i.e. taking my watch off if I'm doing something that might scratch it - while still using things as they're intended. I never get with all the "scratches are character" nonsense, but likewise I don't wrap stuff up in cotton wool either.

If people would read the forum before posting new threads about this we wouldn't have to keep repeating ourselves. The old posts don't just disappear....they are here forever.

It's about $100 for the film to cover the entire watch. I'd buy that and put on what you want and if you don't like it take it off. I have film on the sides of the case and the clasp on my Skydweller because it's my grail watch and I waited years to get it. My other watches don't have any film on them.

Most people here advise insuring watches precisely because they do not have the money laying around to easily replace a watch.

If you are the type of person to put protection film on your watch you probably also dry hump your wife to save her for the next guy.

Don't do it OP. The sides will be ok, bracelet will suffer. But that's life unless you plan on keeping this watch in the safe.

Just wear it!

I don’t totally agree with this. Do you not insure your vehicle if you have the money to replace it?
I insure my watch to have peace of mind and I’d rather pay the deductible (in my case it is $0) to replace my watch, than to pay the full amount, even if I have plenty of money to buy a new one.

I think that applies to nearly everything.

I don’t have anything that I use and enjoy that is perfect, if I use it then it shows wear and tear.

I also like when expensive stuff I have is in new condition and unfortunately try really hard to keep my nice things as perfect for as long as I can, but as mentioned above I never enjoy them as much as I do once I get past this and just use them like they are meant to be used.

I hope someday to be able to just buy things, use them, enjoy them and not care about the scratches and bumps from said use

I don't wrap watches or cars. I used to be very particular about waxing the car every 3 months and parking far away from everyone. Come to find out people always end up parking near you anyway. You can only do so much before the return on your actions plateau and it becomes more work than enjoyment. That doesn't mean I don't take care of my stuff, but scratches are inevitable. I don't mind them on the watch. I've never polished one and probably never will. But then again I wear my watches everywhere including when I was still in the military...

That'll scratch the case more than your wearing it and banging it against a door sill. Wear the bracelets on your other wrist, or just don't wear them.

If your OCD is that substantial, keep the watch in a box and enjoy it that way. I don’t you will put enough stickers on the watch to prevent all of the scratches. The watch can be polished at some point if needed.

I don’t have anything against it. But the little dirt and fuzz that picks up along the edge would drive me crazy.

No. I had ceramic coating applied to my BMW. Which is really something the manufacturers should do. Doesn’t prevent dings and scratches but makes it easy to keep the car clean. But then again, my beloved manual 335 is neither high end nor exotic. Can’t really think of any modern car that would tickle me. Too many gizmos, screens and almost no more manual transmission anywhere. So I suspect my next car, just like my next watch might well be another “pre owned” classic instead of something made targeting a different kind of market.

Well, then it doesn’t matter. Those will destroy the watch no matter what.
