I wore a GMT as my daily for 10 years. It filled every need

I have both; short answer is sub. The GMT on the sub bracelet makes it a tie. If you like a colorful bezel, obviously the GMT. If it’s a one-and-done choice, a black dial black faced watch will do it all, but is not as suited for dress attire. I’ve never liked PCLs, so I modify that (bracelet swaps) which changes the comparison.

I have both a Sub and GMT. I wear the GMT more often than the Sub. I prefer the functionality and the looks of the bezel of the GMT (BLNR).

I’ve got a Sub, but once I get a GMT I plan to wear one on each wrist. In the office I plan to frequently rotate my body 180 degrees to ensure everyone gets a proper look at each of them. I’ll also be sure to wear short sleeves and bring each hand up to my chin from time-to-time as if I am deeply thinking about something, but I won’t be.

I have a Submariner 114060 No Date and a GMT 126710 BLRO Pepsi. I wear the GMT way more than the Submariner; which I tend to save for extreme casual days, chore days, adventure days, and days by the pool or beach.

For me, the Submariner is strictly a tool watch... and I treat it as such. The GMT is a more special piece and much more enjoyable than the standard "run of the mill" Submariner.

That being said, the Rolex I wear most often overall is my Day-Date 40 #228238: yellow gold, fluted bezel, black dial, with diamond markers.

GMT for me. Just visually more interesting and I find the GMT function useful.

In the 5 digit days I chose the Sub primarily because it's a bit more subdued and less noticeable. Unfortunately these days anyone that notices and recognizes a GMT as a Rolex will definitely notice and recognize a Sub. And non-watch people will also notice a Sub due to the ceramic bezel, so I can no longer really call a Sub under the radar or subdued. So if I'm going to wear an obvious Rolex, rather wear the one I like better.

I've been rediscovering my GMT as a daily, but then again, it's an all black bezel one, so less obtrusive than the more vivid options.

The reality is both are incredible one and only watches that you can wear for 30+ years daily and they’ll still look amazing.

We all just have an illness and focus on minute details that others don’t.

Prefer Sub as I don’t like setting the date on the GMT. If an only then no issue.

I think they are both the same when it comes to daily wear.

My husband found his 16710 GMT to be far more comfortable to wear than the equivalent 5-digit Sub. The Sub was a little thicker. No opinion on the modern 6 digit versions.

I think the Glidelock closed the gap. I remember in the 5-digit days the GMT seemed to be the choice for comfort by a clear margin.

I can't think of a single situation outside of their stated literal functions (Diving, time zone jumping) where one would be more appropriate/better than the other.

If a Sub would fit the situation, the GMT will. If the Sub won't, then hard to imagine a GMT pulling it off. I think it's that simple.

Because of the brushed bracelet, superior water resistance, ability to time or countdown events-schedules, and glide lock goodness, the Sub wins in my book as a better everyday piece.

OP, I am with you. Sub over GMT everyday for me if wearing daily.

I never daily'd my GMT on Jubilee when I had it, too flashy for daily use. I used to daily my Sub but recently bought a 36mm Explorer which for me is the perfect daily watch.

Unlike most Rolex wearers, I don’t like bringing attention to myself or the watch I am wearing.

GMT on jubilee shows no scratches. I prefer GMT over Sub overall. My Sub was daily until I gave it to wife. Now Polar ExII is my daily and BLRO for my airline trips. If a one watch guy easily the BLRO.

I have a bunch of watches - don't even know how many - honestly.

I pick my watch mostly based on what I am wearing that day. I go through many of my watches just on a rotation. I am just as likely to wear my Daytona as I am a Swatch. I would gladly wear either a Sub or a GMT as my daily just as well.

You can't go wrong with either choice.

5 digits, GMT because of versatility. 6, sub because no PCLs.

There are strong arguments for both.

The Sub is a tank and has the glide-lock but the GMT has the more useful movement, jumping hour hand, ability to go backwards on date wheel etc.

If I had both, I would daily the sub. If I had to choose one, I’d take GMT every time. I know that is a tad confusing…
