Peter Falk and Alan Arkin in "The In Laws"

Any 1950's B monster movie. Monster from 20,000 Fathoms, Them, Earth vs the Flying Saucers, Plan 9 from Outer Space - hilarious.

The original BBC broadcast of Hitchhikers Guide.

And of course Python.

For TV, this side of the pond Frasier and Cheers, so well written. I have to fess up here, trailer park boy's as well! Something about this show just get's to me. I went and saw them live a couple of months ago..Brilliant. and for fear of shocking and upsetting peoples digestive systems here is a picture with me and the boys after the gig at the VIP event (I know, I can scam my way into anything)

On the other side of the pond, well so many but my favorite must be good old del-boy and Rodders in only fools and horses. Also from North of the Border the excellent Rab C Nesbitt and my favorite old codgers Jack and Victor from still game!
One of their classic scenes!

X the tv shows……..The best comedian out there is Brian Regan. Do a youtube.com search and you will have tears rolling down the side of your face. I have seen him live and he is a original.

As mentioned near the beginning, Fawlty towers is undoubtedly the the funniest show ever written. Only fools and horses is a close second I have every episode of both haha- sheer joy

+1

Fawlty Towers is the funniest show I have ever watched, TV or movie.
There are scenes where I laugh so hard I can hardly breathe. The episode with the Germans, and the one with the deaf woman with the hearing aid stand out particularly in my mind.

Hopefully no one minds me reviving this one…

JParm recently mentioned that ‘The Cable Guy’ (dir. Ben Stiller, 1996) is “such an underrated movie”, and I agree. I think it was actually the first time I saw Owen Wilson, even though he had already made ‘Bottle Rocket’ (dir. Wes Anderson, 1996) slightly earlier, which took me a while to get to.

‘The Cable Guy’ is hilarious and unexpectedly dark, Jim Carrey’s Chip Douglas a bit like De Niro’s pathetic Rupert Pupkin character (a wannabe talkshow host) in ‘The King of Comedy’ (dir. Scorsese, 1982); but where Scorsese’s film is unsettling, Stiller’s is the kind of pure comedy made for rewatching because it makes you feel good.

The other great comedy Jim Carrey is in is ‘Dumb and Dumber’ (dir. Peter Farrelly, 1994). If we’re talking film comedies, that would have to be my favourite. I know how hated it is by some people. The performances are of course silly but laugh-out-loud funny, the gags thick and fast (favourite: Lloyd (Carrey) dry-reaching as he spies on his love interest), and the two loser characters so much more endearing than the mean and awkward people you’d see in comedies from the 2000s on. I love that it feels like it is championing the underdogs even as it caricatures them. They screw up constantly, but it doesn’t matter because those are our idiots! Like Lloyd says, it’s “just a goof, man!”

What’s your favourite film comedy? Why?

There are many, but I'd put the two Python films, Love and Death, and maybe Airplane at the top of my list. Also, a special nod to Tootsie for being so well constructed. Think the hardest I've ever laughed at the movies was during the 'Biggus Diccus' scene in Life of Brian. I couldn't breathe.
