They say the metal ring around the bezel is for protection to the ceramic bezel but can someone show me a chipped bezel on the Daytona from the past 7 years of production? I'm sure there might be one just never seen it and it's HIGHLY uncommon.

This is a pic of the 116519LN white gold vs the 116500 SS. Seems the old WG had the larger lugs.

All of the PM Daytonas except the 116518 (yellow gold on gold oyster bracelet) have always had the symmetrical case with the lugs that curve downwards as in the picture you posted. It's nothing new.

No one has ever criticised that PM case style before. It's still a very elegant, comfortable, curved case, and nothing at all like the super case style introduced with the 6 digit GMT Master 2 and Subs.

The big visual change is the metal ring around the cerachrom bezels, and to a lesser extent the more elegant dial design. The visual effect of the metal ring is that the bezel appears smaller and the case therefore appear larger.

I reckon if you were to PVD coat that outer ring black, no one would be complaining about the overall design.

I think we will see more people backtrack on their original remarks about the 1265xx Daytona once it’s available. I don’t think it’s better than the 1165xx version, but I think it’s distinct enough to be a new release.

There are some definite things I am not thrilled about with the 126500LN that I think are not real improvements. The movement has stayed the same power reserve as the 116500LN. I am not thrilled with the ss bezel protector. As for the dial the new slimmer hour markers while looking more professional and exact give a sense of too much empty space on the dial. I would have liked a more legible dial and cleaner sub dials given there is so much going on in so little space(daytona dial). Also, why slim down the hour markers(zenith styling) while not fixing the issue of centering the sub dials (like the zenith has). Its a strange comprimise that Rolex put out.

I have been a huge fan of Rolex since the 70s. I love my 116500 and I especially love the edge of the ceramic bezel and I don’t think the metal bezel edge on the new one is necessarily better or a step forward. I’m sure if the black dial version of the new Daytona comes my way, I would not turn it down.

There’s always going to be some divide - but I do agree that once it’s out there, more people will jump ship.

That jump can be very slow, 116500 will still be hot for next 1-2 years, i don't think there will be many 126500's around to get for first year or two

I noticed most of the differences right away and why I posted a freak out thread hours after the release of the 12 series changes to the Daytona.
I am very pleased I have a 11 series because if I didn’t, I would be rushing out now to get one as I highly prefer it to the 12 series Daytona.

116500 for life

I can't live with those thin subdials of 12. they make whole dial bigger and whiter

There’s so much hyperbole made of the differences between the 116500 and the 126500. Yes there’s a number of incredibly minor differences, but they essentially add up to the same watch. I honestly don’t think these changes add up to the levels of dramaticism we’ve seen both here and in “professional” reviews.

Personally I admit I prefer the 126500 as it loses the asymmetric lugs that’s have ALWAYS bothered me, and it should also wear a fraction larger as a result. But apart from that they’re near-enough identical.

The asymmetric lugs are something I’ve never managed to get my head around. “Reducing visual bulk” they say….OK, but that so-called “visual bulk” is fine on the PM models that had symmetrical lugs, is it? It made ZERO sense, so for that reason alone, the 126500 is a step forward IMO.

I am not sure I agree with that. You are right that changes are small but they do add up to quite big visual impact on wrist (at least in pictures). I dont think the metal around the bezel is something i like (this was one of the main reasons I sold my speedy because I didnt like how the ring around bezel reflected light). Combined this with the thinner subdials which I dont like (even on the 16520), the choice between the two is easy for me.

But there will be a divide with some people preferring the one over the other. I will say that 126500 has created mixed reaction whereas 116500 was liked by majority when it was released.

Oh, I’m sure MOST won’t agree with me on this one!

Maybe it’s because I’ve never been a big Daytona fan that I find it all a bit of a storm in a teacup.

From side view wristshots it seems a little too chunky for my small wrist, like the new submariners super case

Both beautiful.

Think the metal rim makes the new one look a little better.

If my AD in Oz ever plonks these two on the counter and offers me a choice, I’ll get back to you.

The new one looks so much more refined. If you truly prefer the older one, i think you will have a good chance to pick them up at a good price like the pre ceramic is now.

I guess only time will tell. But the pre-ceramic version was produced for much longer (16 years) and was never this popular. So not sure if that is a fair comparison with 116520.

Everybody wants the new one. So existing owners will dump/trade in the old ones. These are hype pieces and most people dont want to be seen on IG with the old one.

Honestly I love the new Daytona and would probably trade my 116600LN for a new one. I really like the bezel on the new one as well. Would like to see it in person though.
