My 8800 is +5 spd and 3861 +3, whereas my 126610LN and BB58 are both less than -1 spd. Just my opinion here but discussing which brand is better based on merely accuracy out of the box is pointless because you can change that at any time by getting them regulated.
Omega are the ones who push the envelope, and this isn't a knock against Omega, but Rolex lowers themselves trying to compete because Rolex is already the higher brand. I feel that Omega strives to out do Rolex in terms of value and Tudor does the same to Omega. |

I am a fan of Omega on many levels and for a lot of the watches they offer. Movements are an important issue but only one in watch ownership and wear. Omega is in the rearview mirror for Rolex and now that Cartier has surpassed Omega in sales then we can have other discussions about wear and desirability. Rolex has been successful and is the gold/platinum standard for the watch industry based on sales and desirability in the current market. It is what it is. Great watches from PP/VC/AL&S and others but it always comes back around to the Crown. Love them, hate them or just be so so with them but when you look at what they have done, it is amazing.

My 116660 Deep sea keeps better time than my recently fully serviced Speedmaster Professional.
I had to take the Speedy back to get them to improve it, the Deep Sea hasn't been serviced since 2019. At this level I think Omega, Rolex, whatever, they are all great marvels of micro-engineering... |

I don't think Rolex is worried about what Omega does, they do what they do and keep improving on it.
Omega is a great company and so is Rolex but they both do their own thing.

This is actually an interesting question, as for many people the accuracy or design are less important than the brand.
I’ve had a lot of Rolexes over the years, mostly vintage (because I generally don’t like the design of their newer gmt models), and I’ve dabbled with some of the Omega GMTs too. The vintage Rolexes have never been COSC even in terms of spd, and my recent 116710 has had to go back to RSC (only 1 month after the warranty expired on its last RSC service) for managing -9.7spd. My 2535.80, with the 28,800bpm caliber maintained -4spd and my 2234.50 with the archaic 1128 manages ~+1 (though it is not terribly consistent and varies greatly depending up the activities of the day). I used to be a Rolex fanboy, and I’m still struggling to fight the Rolex itch, but the new models and design really don’t do it for me (save the 226570 — but the movement issue there remains). Omega simply no-longer make a wearable gmt tool watch, so I’m sticking with the SMP300gmt until such time that they come out with a new one (which, hopefully, will have similar proportions to the current SMP300). I don’t know what to say about the Omega bracelets — their clasps have exceeded Rolexes since the turn of the millennium and their bracelets seem comparable to Rolex’s from what I’ve seen; the Milanese is a work of genius while the best Rolex can do on most of their tool watches is a over-rated, limitedly capable easy link (my milled PO clasp with 10mm of adjustment fits perfectly well on my Speedy bracelet and cost less than a replacement link for an SS oyster… Omega don’t have the prestige of the Rolex name — nor the price tag. Their reputation does not extend to that of Rolex, nor will it ever. But IMHO, their current options (save the lack of an SMP300gmt) exceed Rolex’s in design, aesthetics, accuracy — and availability (though Rolex’s superior gmt thickness is acknowledged here, as is their recent (but 20 years too late) shift to AR coated crystals). To say Omega is a great watch and an excellent movement maker would be an understatement. Having said that, it's akin to comparing a Land Cruiser to an Infiniti QX80. They're both excellent, and the QX may do some things better than the Cruiser. But, in the end, one is sought after and retains its value, the other is more easily acquired and doesn't hold its $ the same way.
We've all bought things we were sold on, or admired, because of their technical prowess, but if that's the only reason we buy it, it usually doesn't last. At least that's true for me. |

Omega as Defender and Rolex as Land Cruiser (or vice versa) might be, though. |

Do you think Rolex will ?
My Submariner—with the 3130 movement—is more accurate than my Seamaster with the 8800. I do get about 12 hours of more power though with the Omega.

Both Rolex and Omega have been great for me (wear both regularly) with exception to a recent 32xx issue. My concern isn’t that Rolex had an issue arise, but rather that no known fix has been found yet.

My Seamaster 300m was disappointedly one of my least accurate watches at around +6 seconds a day. My 126710BLNR comes in at +2 a day. Currently my most accurate watch is my GS SBGM221 (not a spring drive), and my ETA based Longines Heritage Diver was as prompt as my Rolex.
One thing I know for sure... If I bought all 4 watches new again and again, the medal podium would be different every time. Bottom line is Omega HAS to be at the forefront of technology to spur interest and appreciation for the brand. Without Rolex's marketing prowess, it's essential that they have an identity to set themselves apart from the competition. I think their reputation is an important reason why they are the first luxury watch purchase for many buyers. Particularly those unable or unwilling to wait for a Rolex. |
