Quite possibly as if water gets under it will cause corrosion.

There are plenty of people who put ppf on their cars for protection.
I've said it before, OCD plays a big part for and against it. |

I have invisishield on my 911 and my Ford Truck. I’ve never used it on my steel watches. My Sub seems to be indestructible HOWEVER I just got the White Gold Ghost Daytona and I’m worried about the clasp.
My neighbor didn’t have the 3m stuff on his red truck. They took 2.5k off his trade in because he had so many rock chips it looked like it’d been shot with a shotgun. The dealer was going to respray the front of his truck (so they said) and they took it from the trade It cost him so much he bought a white truck so it would not happen again. |

As said previously, MANY people with high end cars put PPF on their front end of their vehicles and exposed areas to protect the paint from rock chips etc. Some of us prefer to do the same on the clasp of our time pieces to protect the clasp. You don't see people getting bent out of shape for those that apply PPF to cars on car forums and there's no reason for people to get bent out of shape on this forum either. Can't we all just get along.

These posts make me laugh. I'm am so privileged that I am even able to read, respond, and know what is going on here. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. That is what makes the world great. Just because myself and probably 98.8% of the people on here are not going for the tape does not mean it is a bad thing.

I never quite relate to the car / watch analogy. Comparing jewelry and covering it with a plastic coating or film is just different than covering a car in PPF IMHO.
To each their own of course, but I prefer to enjoy the factory finish of my watches in all their glory. |

98,8%? Did you take a poll? I’d venture that that’s the percentage that puts a protective case on their phones.

You obviously haven't seen the good ones then. Mine are not visible unless you look really closely. On the other hand, I can spot PPF on a car pretty easily from 5 feet away.

If the OP doesn't want to scratch his watch from desk diving or regular use, then so be it. He wants his watch to look brand new and I respect that. If you think it it is an awful idea, that's your opinion. He is not asking you to do it on your watch. |

Seriously people, the OP is asking about a protective strip for the clasp only. One with a raised polished centre section at that. For anyone working at a desk its a high wear area.
It is nothing like a screen protector on a phone, or plastic on a couch, or PPF on a full car What would be a much more accurate analogy would be a comparison to using rubber floor mats in your car. Or place/drink mats on your wooden furniture. Or when Porsche apply small PPF panels to exposed rear wheel arches in the factory as those areas are prone to stone chipping. You don't see it as the wearer of the watch and you don't feel it, so what is the issue with small amount of protective tape on a polished clasp?

That's why I cut my own from 3m film which equates to about 10p per clasp
