And the Daytona is a totally different watch. You can "wish" for it but may be waiting a very long time. A lifetime.

A bird in the hand....

That picture is amazing. Perfectly showcases the beauty of that watch. Bravo.

If I’m honest if you have been waiting 5 years and have not been offered a Pepsi the chances of getting one anytime soon are slim to none and the chance of a Daytona is nonexistent.

Sorry if that seems harsh it’s just the truth in my opinion.

I’m lucky enough to own two Daytonas along with a CHNR, one SS black dial and a white gold on oysterflex. The White gold one is my daily wearer and I love it but with regards to the SS one take a step back and ask yourself if there’s wasn’t the hype around the Daytona which would you pick, for me the CHNR is a much better watch in looks and functionality.

If it’s your 3rd choice don’t buy it. Never settle or buyers remorse will hit you.

CHNR btw was my first choice

Consider buying it, immediately flipping it for profit, then getting a Pepsi from the gray market. This way someone will be able to get that root beer from a gray dealer, and you’ll have your Pepsi, win win.

Some people decline after a long wait. The AD just contacts the next person on the list. Personally, I wouldn't be listed for a watch I didn't want. On the one occasion when I changed my mind, I informed the AD and was taken off the list. It didn't stop me from getting everything else I wanted from them - in due course.

That should be a sticky.

Rules:
1. Don't list yourself for what you don't want
2. Don't buy what you didn't ask for
3. If you get the "call" for a model on your list, Buy It

I was in the same boat as the OP, had BLNR as my 'top' choice and CHNR as an alternate. Call for CHNR came and I took it.
(Would still buy BLNR as well but I'm pretty sure the call will never come since I don't buy marked-up jewelry from the local ADs)

Rootbeer is the classiest TT piece in the entire catalogue. Love it.

Agreed. It;s a sad state of affairs to exist, but these should be the rules.

I would also add:

4: If you don’t intend to keep it, don’t buy it.

But many would go nuts about that one.

I have to say, bro, that’s up there with the best wrist shots ever.

I have tried on the new root beer, but it really doesn’t suit my skin the same way that it does yours.

CHNR is by far:
- the most difficult GMT to take photos of;
- the not so impressive looker, to say the least, in the harsh artificial light
- the most beautiful one to get ;)

Comparing it with the new TT GMT it still holds the higher ground.

That is my favorite current config of any Rolex diver. I wish it came without the GMT function, though. Generally, I’m not a big fan, but the color combo is awesome!

The CHNR is one of the most beautiful pieces Rolex currently produces - especially in the flesh - as many others have said, photos struggle to do it justice.

CHNR is a very special watch. There are not too many I would take over it, full Precious Metal or SS included.

Once you see it/try it on you will fall in love.

The Rootbeer is my favorite GMTII which is odd considering that two-tones are usually not my thing. But the hue of the rose gold and brown black bezel is just the best two-tone watch out there.

However, I am a huge proponent of buying what you really really want because you will only be kinda happy with second best, in this case, your third best.

The pain-in-the-rear solution is just to get the Rootbeer, keep it for a little while, then sell it. You'd probably have to go after market for the Pepsi cause your AD will consider you a flipper, but you will not really be out of pocket any money doing it this way.

As many have said, there is something special about the Rootbeer when taken in its entirety. The rose gold and steel oyster working off the brown and black bezel with rose gold accents. On paper it shouldnt work - but when you see it the piece is magical. I dont think another GMT comes close. And I think when its finally discontinued and people look back it will be one of the most classic Rolex pieces ever made

I have both and actually prefer the GRNR. Don't get me wrong, the Rootbeer is very nice, but I think the grey bezel on the GRNR feels more modern than the brown on the CHNR. I also find the yellow gold more vibrant and on the jubilee, the bracelet plays with the light a lot more going from a darker gold hue to a bright yellow sparkle.

I still love the CHNR, but it does feel more muted and subtle compared to the vibrant shiny GRNR.

The rosegold and chocolate bezel are a perfect combo. I got one in 2018 after six months wait. Love the watch. The SS Daytona and SS BLRO are the most waitlisted pieces of Rolex. I hope to get a BLRO at MSRP this year after a 5 year wait. For the time being I can scratch the GMT itch with the rootbeer.

This is what I'm thinking of doing. I got my root beer about 2 years ago but I never wear it. I have a BLNR that I love and wear a lot, but would really like a BLRO so I'm considering doing exactly what you propose.

Root beer is a great watch, but if you don't love it now you probably never will. Always better to just get what you want in the first place if you can.

the CHNR is a beautiful watch, but the BLRO is more beautiful and hold value better than the CHNR. but if you have already been waiting for 5 years, chance of you getting the blro is very slim.

Purchase CHNR as a placeholder until the more spectacular BLRO becomes available. I swapped CHNR because everytime I wore it I missed my grail watch the BLRO. No comparison between the two in my eyes as a pilot.

I'm a mere passenger And I enjoy thinking about how the CHNR somehow matches the color of my bourbon
