Sounds like a horrible trade value wise. I would never do that trade

I don’t like this trade.

From a hardware point of view, you are giving away 1 watch.

From a technical point of view, you are also taking a backwards step.

Unless you really don’t like the two watches you currently own, I don’t see this being a good trade at all.

Trade is fair when you consider dealer doesn’t buy at market price. OP can sell on open market and have a few bucks in his pocket, but ultimately a trade is for convenience - nothing wrong with it. Both watches sold would yield maybe 18k. Dealer is obviously buying (trading) for less because they want to make some money on the subsequent sale of the watches. OP, you are okay in making the trade. You would maybe net 3k if you did it the long way and sold to a private individual. That takes time and an element of risk.

thanks, am also taking into consideration that when i bought the deepsea pre owned rolexes were cheaper then what the rrp was. it would be nice to get a bit of money back from the deepsea of course.
like you mentioned selling private is a hassle and a risk.

Not a great or compelling trade.

Rather trade them for new sub no date.

Today, I can purchase a very nice 16610 for $8390 and 116660 for $10,590 on the bay. After fees, gross income for the seller is $16.5k or less in total. SD4K is about $14k on the same site. For some, $2.5k is either a lot of money or nobody bothered to do the math. Obviously other sale options exist at different levels of risk.
To put it in perspective, a car has 3 values. There is a trade-in, private party and retail value. The watch market is similar. Trade in value for both watches, in the OP’s case, is about $14k. $2.5k isn’t a lot of money when you factor in time and convenience. Some people’s time is obviously worth more than others. I suspect the currency conversions still yield the same results as the percentages stay relatively consistent.

Had to wait a week or so as the Sd4k had a small mark on it when it arrived at the boutique so had to be sent off for a light polish. It wears super comfy and am happy with the trade.

If the bracelet is compelling, just buy a 97200 bracelet. They come up semi regularly here and elsewhere. I purchased 2 from DavidSW, one is on my 16610 and it's perfect.

I did something similar in 11 - 12 yrs ago with my 3 - 5 digit subs and 2003 GMT II - Added just the glidelock clasp to all 4. With the glidelock clasp, the feel of the entire bracelet changes - for the better (for me anyway)

Having your pants pulled down. They should at least buy you dinner beforehand.

Mmm, not sure, not feeling it. It almost sounds like giving the Sub away.

not really, other grey market dealers were asking me to throw in a couple of grand on top for older sd4k's. i got some money back on this deal. like i said the sub has not been worn for a few years and the deepsea was a daily but also was a big watch. am sure the newer versions with the wider bracelet are better proportioned.
also i think the sd4k will increase in value alot more then the sub and the deepsea as it was only on production for three years.

This is how the case was so I requested for it to have a light polish before I picked it up.

Better to own one watch you love and will wear than two that don't really make you happy. A lot of members did the math for you and yes perhaps you could have gotten around 2k more out of this deal, but hey service cost money and trading with a trusted party is also worth some cash. I believe you made the right choice watch wise. Considering the issues you mentioned with the other two models, the SD4K should be perfect for you! Enjoy it!
