I have a pretty small wrist and wear a SD on occasion, but would never buy a DSSD, due to the size.

The size difference alone makes them very different watches.

I think this photo exaggerates the size difference.

Something to consider when shopping for the Deepsea or Seadweller. When looking at the Deepsea above the Rolex showcase at your AD, with 2 or 3 other Rolexs laid out in front of you, the Deepsea looks huge and out of proportion. The same thing happened to me, I walked out of the AD thinking the GMTIIc was the better watch for me because it conformed to the typical Rolex size better. The Deepsea is NOT a typical Rolex.

Then I went home and studied my collection of sport and dive watches and realized the Deepsea had more emotional pull for me, so I ordered it. I can say with 110% certainty, I made the right choice and the Deepsea looks right at home on my 7.25" wrist, along with my Breitlings, Doxa, Omega POC etc.

But in the AD it looked HUGE compared to the rest of the Rolex showcase. Its all relative I guess.

My first Seadweller appreciated over a period of about 18 years but certainly nothing close to my investments during the same time. When the economy is bad people are not willing to spend as much on 2nd hand luxury items as well so don't think you could run out today and sell your DSSD for as much as you paid for it. There are plenty of new ones sitting on the shelves right now and I could easily get 10% off at an AD for a brand new one and more like %25 off at a gray market dealer. I have seen used models in the $7 K range. So unless your AD gave you %25 to %30 off retail don't look for the big bucks any time soon.

If Rolex were to discontinue the DSSD in the next few years you could probably make a nice profit in a few years following that but the bad news is you will have to give up a watch that it seems like you probably like a lot.

I have absolutely no personal attachment to any stock, bond, stamp, coin, or other item that I have as an investment. Selling them off does not bother me in the least and a lot of them earn dividends quarterly.

So enjoy your watch and keep it a long time but don't count on some astronomical windfall in the future. Get some real investments through an investment counselor rather than listening to your Rolex AD about them.
I dont know who was talking about beating out investments? The point is ,there are many Rolex watches that will only increase in price sooner rather than later. As for your comment about my AD,Im not sure how you concluded that I get finiancal advise from them,I was simpley stating a fact I was told by them!

I'd go with the standard SD. Better overall balance at a cheaper price and without the dial graffiti.

Depth rating for both beyond that of human limits, so you continue to have zero risk of problems when you dive with it without the added bulge of the SDDS.

of the two, i'd go with the dweller - my 6.25 inch wrists factor into that choice.

Since it's introduction, I've heard about problems with the Deep Sea's bezel and movement, and bracelet catch, right on this forum. I still have yet to hear about a systemic problem with the Sea Dweller. And I am very happy with a V series Sea Dweller.

I tried on the DSSD and felt like I had a toaster strapped on my arm. It is really THICK. It's not for me, it looked too big for my 7.35" wrist.

This seems to be the trend with a lot of watch companies. Rolex now has the Deep Sea, the YMII(42.7MM?) the DJII(41MM?) And women seem to be into larger watches too. I still like my watches 40-42MM. That said I would not mind seeing a new Daytona based on the YMII case.

If both watches appeal to you equally, then one determining factor could be price.

In asbolute terms, the Deepsea is more expensive BUT you're paying a discount to MRSP whereas you would probably have to pay the full MRSP or maybe a premium over MRSP for the SD because the market and ADs are factoring in the likelihood of it being discontinued.

To me, paying a discount on the list price is always preferable than paying a premium - as I said, provided of course that you view both watches equally.

And provided you can afford the $7,600 or so that the Deepsea costs. Good luck!
