Btw this was before they started these academy teams. Back then you played club and would work through our Olympic development system and each state would send their best to Bradenton. I think the new way is so much better . Wish I was young again lol

Speaking from a spectators point of view in saying it's only a game!

It only takes one bad apple:

Just watch some of the Spain v Switzerland match, Spain are awesome.

Oh, and both teams sang their anthems with gusto, except Spain!

Hateful sentiment towards your own country (because you are unhappy about your level of remuneration) whilst at the same time representing it on the world stage just seems a tiny bit selfish and narsisistic....

I might say an exception to that could be if your country was a regime that was actively engaged in war crimes, which I don't think is the case in the present instance.

I don’t think it’s about that though; the USWNT already won that fight against US Soccer last year. It seems unclear (outside of any reasons assumed by conservative media) why they aren’t singing their anthem. Based only on what Rapinoe herself has said, it’s about social injustice against people of colour and LGBTQIA+ people.

Per TRF rules, I’m not promoting that, and I have the utmost respect for our American friends. But I think that is what it’s about.

I think there’s a distinction to make between “hating your country” and “wanting your country to be better”.

Yes, if you feel that bad about representing your country, then just don't. Have some self respect. Stand up for your beliefs in a meaningful way.

Most of them hate their county. In words and actions. Some say they are going to move out of the county. Why not stay and try to improve what they see as wrong. The US is a nice county to be in. Especially Florida.

It’s really easy to wave a flag and cheer, it’s harder to get people talking and to try to make a difference. Both are patriotic, IMHO, both have their place in the U.S. and both are very American.

Great win by Sweden over the USA.
Very brave and courageous play by Sweden.

Man, that was intense. USA were so dominant but just couldn’t get it through Mušović, who was incredible. I thought Dennis Rodman’s daughter, Trinity, played amazingly as did USA’s midfielders. Well done Sweden beating a great opponent.

Matildas tomorrow against Denmark…

USA....

It was an amazing final PK that cinched it for SWE. That ball had real Swenglish spin on it.

Glad the VAR had the technology, and that it worked, for the deciding goal decision.

Rapinoe is selfish. It shouldn’t be all about her and what she believes. It should be about the team and rallying everyone in the country behind them. In the business world, she could never be a leader of men and women.

She’s acts like a troubled teenager with blue hair that’s angry about everything. Since she plays soccer, she never had to grow up, get rid of the blue hair, and become a responsible human being.

It’s okay to take stands, but there is a time and place for everything. She should separate all that from her team.

4 total goals in 4 games and 3 of them against Vietnam. Not good. I don’t know much about soccer but that seems to be a problem.

I enjoy World Cup football, men's and women's, but I refused to support the WNT this time around. She had a platform and could have used to for good, but instead sowed hate, which oddly she was protesting against.

Good riddance.

I agree. Ironically, Rapinoe is perhaps the most privileged person in the United States. But yet she’s always acting like a troubled, blue haired teenager with an axe to grind.

Who else could get away with high jacking a national team, and using it for advancing a political agenda?

It’s laughable.

Too bad for the women that showed some class but super happy the USA was eliminated given the disdain part of the squad exhibits for their country.

I'll start off by saying that I didn't think the USWNT were disrespectful this World Cup for not singing the national anthem. Some people just don't sing, they didn't kneel or turn their backs, which was unacceptable at the last WC. That said, I will never root against my country, only players.

That said, this had to be the worst collection of players the US has ever put on a field. Rapinoe is absolute garbage and way past her expiration date. As a whole, the team is too old and slow. They were lucky and 3" away from Portugal eliminating them in the group stage when POR hit a post in the 92' minute.

They won 1 game out of 4 and scored only 1 goal in the last 3 games. That is the definition of garbage.

All that said, they had 3 separate chances to win in PKs and choked away all 3. Rapinoe, o"hara missed the entire frame and the Sofia Smith that scores 2 against Vietnam hits a post.

MVP was the US keeper with saves and her own PK made against Sweden.

They have a lot of work to do before their next tournament and not just in the PR department.

Aside from that, I really have no opinion on the World Cup.

The team accomplished more than player performance seen during the competition. If you are one who thinks it’s about hair color, maybe check your bias. If you are one who expects wins, then I respect your expectations.

No, the team didn’t come through as in the past - but we should note that other National teams have upped their game to challenge USNWT’s high performance over the past decades. We fell short on that important metric.

The accomplishments which I’m citing include equal pay, treatment, and status by US Soccer - this will pay dividends for many decades.

Did that last shot go in? Does the entire ball have to be over the line?

Yes, unfortunately it did Paul.
They showed the goal line image, and the entire ball was just, over the line.

It’s much more than just hair color. It’s the entire package. She has nothing to complain about. She’s more privileged than just about everyone in our country. Either way, her on the field performance was awful too.

Granted, FC Dallas is full of D1 and Pro talent. However the optics is very bad. I would bet the practice squad for the USMNT would obliterate any U-15 squad .

Also, that’s an MLS academy team. Imagine what a Barcelona or ManU youth team would do to the USWNT
