Hopefully it doesn't do much to the West Coast. With any Luck we won't see the worst of it water wise. Mud slides are a biotch too. Be Safe Everyone!

We've got history for 300 years, maybe 500 in the Americas?

I think we'll be okay.....

No media hype up here in BC. State of Emergency called for our Province and the NWTerritories due to Wildfires.
15000+ homes plus evacuees.
A horror ....

Your post got me reading up about what's happening there.
Almost unbelievable and with no real end in sight.

Kelowna was always one of my favorite areas and used to drive there from Calgary often back in the day, even considered moving there.

Northern Alberta and up to Yellowknife NWT have also been hit pretty hard lately.

It’s all pretty disheartening to see all this damage in the last few years.

It's a great wine country too....
The wildfires in BC in area is greater than the State of New York is reported and 95% of Yellowknife has been evacuated.... It is soo unreal, yet very real.

It seems to be everywhere. I live in Tn and we have had some of the strongest storms on record the past couple months. Two tornados within miles of each other at the same time last week, and tornados are quite out of the ordinary here.

Our house was torn up by a storm 6 weeks ago. So much water coming in from the attic it flooded down inside the walls. It was quite interesting to see water spraying from light switches and out of can lights.

Tell me the world isn’t ending

The center of the storm is now tracking well east of the major population centers in southern CA. That’s a good thing for folks in San Diego and LA. Much less rain and wind on the western side of the storm. Not so good for Las Vegas and maybe Phoenix.

I live in Tucson and these Pacific hurricanes and tropical storms track up the Gulf of California almost yearly. Sometimes a couple times during the same season. They generally are more hype than downpour, but occasionally they do turn out to be significant events. The only difference this time is that the storm track is a little more to the west, involving southern California. And as we all know, southern California is the center of the known universe.

WTH is going on?

It so soooo wrong, that at these real estate prices we should have to deal with weather.

So wrong.

A lot of joking on here. However, living in Florida we've had our share. In all seriousness, be prepared, don't do anything stupid and stay safe everyone.

Looking at the latest NHC forecast, it should be a tropical storm when it hits you. Still nothing to sneeze at. Lots of water and flooding.

Our thoughts are with you and hopefully it won't be too bad.

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I can tell you the city is woefully unprepared, we are not ready for what we do not usually experience. I mentioned I have seen snow in my home city three times my entire life. We are talking about a light dusting that melted about 30 seconds after hitting the ground, but it literally made all the cars on the highway stop. The entire city came to a standstill. I think (hope) we will be fine, but we San Diegans are not the hardiest community of people when it comes to severe weather; living in a temperate zone makes you soft.

Absolute quiet and stillness from last night to now in Thousand Oaks.

Eerily quiet.

Rain forecast around 10ish for next 24 hours. We’ll see

Stay safe.

I’m very worried about the rains in so cal. There are landslides in La Jolla, coastal cliffs, canyons, etc. when there isn’t record rainfall. That’s just one of the costs of living there.
I used to live there and in the high desert. The inland desert can’t handle rain either and there will be massive flooding and damage. People washed off the washed out roads, etc.
Stay safe!

It’s been downgraded to a tropical storm and it looks like San Diego and LA will be west of the eye wall or (or what’s left of the eye wall). This storm also looks like it’s disintegrating. Don't be surprised if it's downgraded further (i.e., loses tropical storm status).

The amount of precipitation doesn’t look that impressive, and it’s a fast moving storm too, so it’s not going to linger. But I suppose it’s still a big threat for these desert areas.

11:30 AM in the Los Angeles area. A breeze and it's drizzling. So far, I doubt there is any damage in the LA.

Just checked in with family in San Diego County. The major brunt of the storm was to be between noon and 1 pm. So far it’s a big nothing burger. Absolutely no wind at all, light rain, but intermittent…. Media loved the eyeballs on screen though. As predicted by many, it tracked more to the east than was being reported.

The thing that's striking to me is how disappointed people all over the internet are over this. Not on TRF, but elsewhere...What is wrong with these people? I guess they really wanted to see a disaster.

Unfortunately, it's an almost no-win situation for the local authorities.

If they don't say it has potential to be a major disaster and people don't react, then they are responsible for not warning everyone. If they overreact (as in this case) and it's a nothing-burger, then they are criticized for that. I wouldn't want to be one of the people who has to make this call.

I’m guessing the situation in Maui was a factor as well.

People criticized for not enough/any warnings and now here now wanting the same criticism perhaps overplayed the potential damage, although there will still be issues in places that have poor drainage.

Where I am in Thousand Oaks is still getting heavy rain at 7PM. But looks like it’s going to back off in an hour or so.
