These two since they are my only two for now!

If funds weren’t an obstacle; Platinum fluted DD40 ice blue with baguettes and meteorite BLRO. Very close to my buddy Randy’s duo above!

The Rolex I have now is a Datejust Oysterquartz. I would love to add a Day Date 18348. Gold with a diamond bezel. That would be my 2-watch collection.

Mine would be a platinum daytona for everyday use and the Rosegold 41mm Daydate for special occasions.

But for now will have to settle for my Pre ceramic Daytona and maybe the two tone Seadweller or James Cameron for the weekends.

East for me. And I own them

And this one

As for the why?

The Daytona was a grail. It’s also extremely comfortable, doesn’t shout “look at me” and, well, I just love it and that’s all that should matter.

The 16600 is arguably the ultimate diver. No one needs a ceramic bezel. It’s proportions are nigh on perfect and it’s got the bomb proof 3135 movement. Probably the last actual tool watch Rolex made.

I am shooting for a 36 mm Datejust and a Submariner. Just picked up the 126234 blue dial jubilee.

From the pictures in this thread, I dare say in a 2-watch collection I much prefer stark color contrasts over a difference in design or type of watch.

For example, I think a 16710 and 16570 Polar make a better combo than say a Sub and Daytona if the latter is a steel black dial. I always thought even a Explorer II combo in black and Polar make a great duo.

I changed my mind on that a while ago when I added the polar and thought this plus the sub allows a bit more variety with different dial colours and a spot of colour with its orange hand.

I’m currently of the opinion that Sub & DJ41 might be the best bet however - allows further variance of dial colour, bracelet and bezel options, plus allows something more dressy for special occasions.

I think the Submariner and DJ41 are the perfect 2 Rolex collection. I’m halfway there

126710BLRO and 116610LV then I will add up a YG DJ, that makes it complete for me.

YG Sub Ceramic Date and some DJ41 or DJII variant...

Once I would have thought it was a DD40 and perhaps a Daytona, but those never seem to stay in my collection very long.

It depends. A classic, iconic duo would be

Sub / GMT + DJ on jubilee / DD with fluted bezel.

But I can see some people going for something more left-field, fun…, like a Milgauss + Cellini moonphase, or Daytona + grape (or ‘Stella’) OP…

116710LN and DD40 rose gold (half way there ha)

OR

A Sub and white/light DJ41/36 on jubilee (I’d go smooth bezel)

I think the two most iconic Rolex watches there are the day date 36 or 40 the president bracelet with its ceramic inserts to stop stretching makes this watch a lot more practical.

Any type of Daytona for more casual wear the simple reason being the 4130 dial is a crazy complication it is also very easy to set which people very much underestimate with mechanical watches.

For me these are the only two iconic designs instantly recognisable and quality through and through.

If you wear glasses I probably wouldn't recommend the Daytona with the black and silver dial because it's very hard to read apart from that awesome
