I’m in the No Way camp. I have asked for and received five high demand Rolex from my AD over the last few years and was told it would be at least next year before I might be able to get one. They know their allocations will be scarce for the rest of this year and too many people wanting one.

Go back and tell them you also want a $100,000 diamond necklace for your wife, and you might get there...probably not.

That's among the very rarest / most desired pieces. It's simply not practical to plan on acquiring that piece with zero purchase history.

The AD is merely being polite in taking your name.

Def stick with it!

Although I'd recommend buying your wife about $34-$50k in jewelry if you want your chances of actually getting it to be more than zero

Datejust. They may not be in the case.

The approach:
- "Hi there! Do you have a GMT..."
- "Sorry, no, the waiting list for professional models is 5 years long"
- "Thank you anyway. Well how about a Datejust 36mm?"
- "Let me look in the back room .... Yes we have a two tone!"

Thank me later.

I got a green OP41 in a little under five months, no prior spend at AD. Was making no traction at another AD so went to the one that ended up getting me the watch. The celebration is undoubtedly a harder get I’m sure, but visit multiple ADs in your area and express your interest.

I would look at something like a DJ41, Sub LN or a PM piece to start.

Celebration OP is going to be very very hard (if not nearly impossible) to get as a first watch, due to the high resale potential.

I asked my SA about one and he knows I’m a big fan but even then I’ve been told the 2 for this year and 2 for next year that they’re receiving are already spoken for!

Order a specific DJ, as your first. I’m just guessing, but I don’t think they produced a lot of Celebration dials, and you will never be offered it, as your first, if your AD gets one.

I put in a “request” for a celebration dial as well knowing full well i will almost certainly not get one because while I do have some history with the AD, and they know I love watches, it’s not a huge spend.

If my AD sold a celebration to someone with zero history, I’d be super pissed. Well, at least as pissed as one can get regarding a business’s decision to sell what they want to whomever they want.

Celebration dial probably isn’t going to happen as a first but I will say, I’ve been surprised with the amount of incomings and listings for this OP. I think many of us thought there would be fewer of these around, and maybe that will play out but we saw quite a few in the last month or so.

I called my local AD during May 2022 looking for a 124060 Rolex and got on the "list". I had NO HISTORY here. I called back a few months after getting on the list and was told, when your name comes up we will call you. I asked if I needed to make an additional purchase and was told NO doesn't matter if you spend $20 or 20K, we call when your name comes up...April 4, 2023 I got the call... less than a year.... I purchased an LV from a different AD the year before, no history.... I was very lucky to get these buying opportunities... I'm on the list for a GMT.... I was told 2024/2025...I'd rather wait than go grey...

Focus your sights on a DJ36 or maybe explorer 1/Air-King.

OP celebration isn’t going to happen

It's better now than it was the last few years, at least now you can build a purchase history by buying other Rolex models, DJ's are starting to show back up in stock.

Grab a Datejust for your wife, off the shelf. Its win/win. She'll probably love it, and you'll have the start of a purchase history.

i'm going to go with a controversial suggestion. Just buy any OP you can get your hands on and order a custom dial.

I'm sure everyone will hate the idea, but you always have the legit dial to swap back in, and you can get the dial you want without a crazy markup.

This is a great idea as long as this watch doesn’t get sold without declaring the dial swap. All is good for own use!

I can't imagine why that would even be controversial, so long as he keeps the original dial and reinstalls it before selling.

The car you want with the wheels you want. Slap the originals back on it whenever.

no way you're getting that watch as a first purchase from your AD. either go grey or go grey waiting
