Congratulations OP. Enviable watch and it looks great on you. You knew what you wanted and you got it. Hope it brings years of joy.

You paid a premium trading but I imagine doing the work to maximize your return wasn’t worth the hassle to you.

Yes, I’ve done some consolidating recently too.

That Patek 5168 looks perfect on your wrist. I have the smaller brother, 5167R and love it. Congrats!

Congrats! Just because a watch is a Rolex and PM doesn’t mean it’s a keeper. You did what you wanted, and you got a watch that makes you happy. Enjoy!

no not really. I maybe could have netted a little more selling at retail instead of trading, but since most of the dealer's margin was built into the pp, he actually gave me quite high trade values. I actually listed the watches for sale here and on ebay and dealer beat all the offers I received on both platforms. Btw, ask anyone trying to sell watches at retail prices right now and they'll tell you, not many are buying.

The OP trade looks better to me with the 1680 red and 126610LV he kept to keep the Patek company. His three that he now has would function and feel better on my wrist than the departed ones.

Love PP.

Don’t love their sports offerings.

As for the question posed, I don’t subtract watches / sell anything. I only add.

Right? I mean to each their own, but that was a terrible trade to me.

OP - your call of course. But as others have said, you gave up a lot. I know it may just be me, but that PP looks rather bland (again to me). yes, I know it is a "PP", but you gave up a great mix of watches for it. But enjoy it if that's what you wanted, congrats

I recently consolidated by trading a 126610LV and a Lange Saxonia Thin with the Copper blue dial plus a little cash (about $2K) for a Patek 5230G world timer. So my collection at the moment is the Patek and a Pepsi

Earlier this year I traded 4 Panerai (360, 911, 424, 292) and a Tudor 58 925 silver that were getting very little wrist time for a YG Daytona. Straight up w DSW. NEVER LOOKED BACK.

I always look at what I actually have in a watch not necessarily what I could get for them eventually. As long as " I'm " not loosing money and I get the watch I want I will make the trade. It's not worth it to me to try a squeeze every penny out of a watch if it takes months or even a year to move it. In the meantime the watch I want gets sold and I'm waiting again.

Trade the watches and bring home the prize makes me happy.

Yes felt like now was great time (before values drop more) to trade up

The 42.2mm case and only 8mm thick sits so nice on the wrist. It's silky smooth!

I did enjoy wearing that one. Might have to buy a gold day/date (which I've never owned before) at some point.

absurd how? values for all math out. Values for rolex are down but prices for prestige pp pieces haven't fallen at same rate. I expect that to continue long term.

Lots of posts telling you the math is bad, but not one person has bothered to explain how.

Here's my rough estimate:

116619: 35K
16528: 35K
SD43: 10K
IWC: maybe 2K? who knows?

I personally love the gold daytona and smurf. Maybe you didn't love them.

Everyone loves the blue skydweller and white explorer 2. I personally think they suck, and will probably trade them away + cash for a 5711 or 5726 one day. Or, perhaps a gold daytona.

End of the day, the trade wasn't awful from a value perspective (you maybe lost 10K, who cares). If you got the watch you want, awesome. We bozos on TRF don't get a vote about what goes on your wrist

You're a little high on both smurf and daytona at today's values (my Smurf was older and had been ridden rough). I'm sure the dealer made $10k on the deal especially factoring in margin on the 5168g. End of the day I got rid of watches I no longer loved, for one that I can't stop staring at.

Made more sense to cash in value in a falling market

That looks like a 5167? Are these the pics of the watch you got or something generic, or was there a 5168 in black face?
