Honestly, I think it's kind of neat. It gives the watch a little more character and there's a bit of a story behind it.

I don't want a story of a stranger on my watch. It's tainted, not neat from my perspective.

Stickers on, good deal. I'd just get a new case back, then it's basically NIB.

Look at what happened to the price of the Dominos Rolex a couple years ago, Id leave it as is
If it bothers you Id buy a new caseback and keep this one.

Weren't the Dominos ones actually done by Rolex - Dial and custom endlinks? This seems like a standard steel Datejust with laser or acid etching on the back. They probably dish them out to certain employees for 10 years service.

The fuss is dealer said it’s an award to an employee of Home Depot, and it has been sitting there untouched for almost 2 years.
It sounds a bit weird that Home Depot awarded their employees with Rolex

Agree. It looks cheaply done. Not a big deal as someone said it’s cheap to get a new case back . But somehow I just feel not right. But $7500 for a dj36 silver dial dome bezel with oyster bracelet is too good to pass.
I know it’s not a sexy but rather boring configuration. But wife wants boring. On the other side my gut feeling tells me it’s not hard to get from dealer either with relatively same price

I didn't mean to be overly harsh on the piece. Home Depot has to go and it'll be sexy!

It’s just the caseback…as long as it is priced accordingly I’d just have it polished off at its eventual service. No need to replace the entire caseback for that..

It's $7450 via an AD (according to the Rolex website), before tax. So you should be fine on your $7500 purchase, even if you buy a caseback. You did purchase it, correct? That's what I took from post #25.

I sold an OP34 that was an anniversary gift for Hard Rock employees and the caseback was the only indication outside of the warranty card of its origins. Outside of you and your wife, no one will ever know, regardless of your caseback decision.

yep, I made the transaction. Just having a bit buyer's remorse now.

if the case back is changed in the future, nobody will know it's not origin as long as it's a genuine rolex part? There is no any identification on the case linked to the original watch?

Nope! You’re good. Relax. You got a great watch, at a great price. Just enjoy it. I might have a jeweler remove the logo, before giving it to your wife. Alternatively, she might get a kick out of the story.

You can polish it out it's no big deal, or you get a replacement back otherwise you choose another watch.

Why the remorse?

Have the case back swapped for a Rolex OEM part and the watch is 'like new.'

The 'story' is something we can keep confined to TRF. No need to leak it to your wife or anyone else. (I wouldn't mention it beyond saying "I bought this watch from the internet.")

And throw away the HD cover, it certainly doesn't add to the value or appearance. Put it behind you.

I saw a 14060 Submariner for sale once with the GM logo engraved on the caseback. Apparently they were awarded to sales managers at dealers who exceeded sales quotas. As a car enthusiast I thought it was kind of cool and would have no issues rocking one. Pretty sure it was done at the factory as I recall the registration paperwork with the watch serial# had “General Motors” printed on it.

Its on the caseback its not like anyones gonna see it anyways.

That would perhaps work for _me_.

But no way would it work on a watch that is being gifted. ("Oh yeah so the watch was previously gifted to someone else ha ha, never mind the company logo. I got a great deal because of it. Happy birthday sweetie!")

Each year Home Depot has a manager's meeting. That meeting hosts all of the store managers, district managers, regional managers, and corporate support staff. Home Depot divides itself as such: Division > Region > District > Store.

Starting in 2010, the Store Manager and District Manager that exceeded their Sales Budget by the most for each region were awarded a datejust (Men's or Women's). There are 13 regions if memory serves me. There are roughly 10 districts per region, and roughly 10 stores in a district. So as a store manager, you had to beat 100 stores give or take. With 13 regions, there were 26 awarded annually (I think). The first were given out at the Manager's meeting in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay. That time, the watches were a COMPLETE surprise as no one knew what was happening. It was very well received as sales performance was only ok that time. Economic circumstances and customer behavior were just starting to rebound from the 2008 downturn.

This continued for several years, but I understand it has since been discontinued. I do not know exactly when as I left in 2011 after that year's manager's meeting. I did not receive a watch.

I might be missing something but you could probably get a domed silver dial 36 brand new for the same price. Probably not much of a wait.

Interesting. Pretty hard won watches then to be fair.

It is interesting to have the colour of the story.

Made me laugh.

Another vote for replacement caseback. Keep the HD one in case you find yourself at an Antiques Roadshow in 30 years & you find out that it's worth two cheeseburgers.
