I’m shocked anyone considers a modern Rolex GMT light and dainty. My only complaint about them is they seem heavy and bulky to me.

What do you normally wear??

I can identify with what you’re saying OP.

I’ve bought watches before based purely on pictures. Only two of them worked out.

It’s always best to be able to try them on in person, but sadly that’s not always possible these days

It was so hard to get the Pepsi... Unfortunately, after the honeymoon phase, it was kind of a disappointment. The jubilee feels cheap, it wobbles and makes the watch look too busy. It doesn't look like a sports watch or a dress watch, kind of an "ugly" in-between. The sides of the watch are sharp and make it uncomfortable to me. The watch is top-heavy with an extremely light bracelet which can make the watch unbalanced on the wrist, especially when the wrist isn't perfectly face up or down. I think the Daytona deserves the hype more, it's classier (even for a sports watch), and looks more comfortable too. The GMT is a glorified sub to me, and if not for the hype I probably never would have gotten one. Very grateful I got it tho made me feel all special inside when I got chosen but I spend more time looking at it than wearing it.

- These watches are hyped to the moon, so of course you're buying some of that
- At the AD you pay for it via unwanted purchases of marked up jewelry
- At the Grey you pay some extra margin
- I don't care what John Mayer, Jennifer Aniston or Roger Federer are wearing

Watch
- Bracelets are second to none. They beat everything out there in form, function, appearance.
- No funky knobs sticking out the side (talking to you, Omega)
- No 'faux' anything (Looking at you *cough* Tudor, with your patina, rivets and other retro vibes)
- Unquestioned water resistance across the entire range, even the lady datejusts
- Bone crushing water resistance in sports models

I said, the Jubilee bracelet feels light and dainty. I wear a Sub date, and if you try on a Sub date and a GMT with Jubilee, you’ll instantly see a giant difference in the bracelet.

I'll agree with the 'dainty' feeling here. And of course PM adds a great deal of additional 'heft.'

Wow I have not heard many people complain about the Pepsi like this. It’s nice to hear a variety of opinions.

This is really on point - go check out Omega or Breitling and then come back to the Rolex store and you’ll see an immediate difference.

Bracelets and micro-adjustments are one of the most understated parts of owning and wearing a high end watch.

I said, it's 1:45, he then looks at this watch and says, i got the same time on my Timex watch and i only paid $15 dollars for it and he laughs an says, i didnt need an expensive watch to show me the time! Then i said, didnt you just buy a brand new super dually pickup truck and your dually was just 3 years old? He looks at me with a puzzled look and i said...you did it cuz you can huh!!!..he walks away...

I buy what i want for me, not anyone else...but i've have been told i was high maintenance, and that's the ladies saying it...i always say....so what is your point?...

The numerals are just too big IMO. The five digit GMTs are much nicer imo.

Agree, I feel like the modern Pepsi bezel is screaming “look at me!” My wife looked at it for 5 seconds and said “it looks like a toy” Gotta say I agree but yes, to each their own.

I've never seen a Rolex advert or AD poster for the Daytona that didn't look stunning. An achingly cool and well styled watch - when enlarged and put on a wall. I've never met one in SS TT or PM that I found likeable enough to buy or ask to be listed for.

As for buying unseen: never unless I have tried on an identical model. England isn't huge. Traveling to a dealer (used or AD) to meet a watch in person and look it over before buying is not difficult for me. It actually got me into a Speedie, an AT and my first Sky Dweller, all of which, until I tried them on, I had assumed would be too big for me.

Ok.

All my modern GMTs are on oyster so you can see my confusion.

Here in the USA they whip out the well-worn line when 'visiting' other ADs: "I suggest you go back to your home state and establish a relation$hip with your local AD" (you'd think I was visiting France or Germany "No Rolex in stock. Go back to your country and try there.")

I agree with your sentiments. Folks can spend their discretionary money on what they want, it's all a matter of what turns your crank. I've had similar situations where people with $100k+ vehicles give you the skunk eye if you mention a Rolex watch...whatever!

As far as the Pepsi goes, yet to see one in the metal but it looks nice in the pics, but all my watches are some form of oyster bracelets except my Omega 300M. Always need to try your prospective purchase on, but I find a Sub in any form to be a safe bet. Cheers!

Started with the image of the 6 digit Pepsi, ended with the watch I preferred in the 5 digit BLRO. Also have a Coke insert to mix it up. Much better watch experience to me. Oh yeah, also put it on a 97200 glidelock for a complete package.

I wanted a Pepsi since the mid 80’s. Every time I’d see one, the design and color just screamed to me. The five digits always felt a little weak so once the six digits were released, I had to have it. And really to me the Rolex image is all about the Sub and DD. I think the GMT is a little more low key. I see 500 subs for every 1 GMT.

I buy for me which is why I’ll never own a Daytona, Royal Oak, or countless other hype pieces. While I understand there are plenty of people that like those watches for what they are and not the hype, they do absolutely nothing for me personally. Definitely a good thing for my wallet

I find your take interesting because I experienced the exact opposite: absolutely no love for the ExpII IRL but absolutely adore any current GMT variant in the flesh. Goes to show how personal this watch journey is for everyone.

How many people use the GMT function when they travel?
How many people dive with their Subs and Sea-Dwellers?
How many people climb, trek with their Explorers?
How many people use the chrono function on their Daytona'?
Very few based on my experience. The vast majority buys these models because of their looks, marketing, status symbol/obtainability. Not for their intended use.

In my case, I wanted a GMT because I worked in aviation and I travelled to different continents on a weekly basis. Turns out that I did not need a GMT watch (I had an Explorer 2). It became a hassle to constantly fiddle with it, especially when the layover is only 24 hrs. So, I stopped using it.
I can understand why a GMT watch was useful in the past, before we had all these digital devices. Nowadays, a GMT function is becoming as romantic as a chrono.

Having said all this.....I am as guilty as anyone else because I still want a Pepsi. But if I don't get one at retail I shall eventually get a 5 digit ref which has the great advantage of playing with the bezels.
I like to justify myself by telling everyone I am a WIS.
