I would pick the daytona, based on size only.
But I"m basically anti chronos.

The screw down pushers is one of a few things that ruins the Daytona

Anyone that thinks Daytona is more robust because Rolex should refer to the NASA test trials. 321 is a robust movement. The Lemania 2310 base is legendary.
The 321 is an amazing looking watch.

Coin flip between the Daytona & 321 depending what you are after, better watch vs resale.

Daytona all day everyday over the Speedy 3861

One is a clear, high contrast, extremely useable chronograph with an incredible history and significance, and the other is a Rolex.

Daytona as it has a higher WP rating / screw-down crown PLUS auto-wind feature.

Depends if you are getting a Calibre 321. At 5k, I would say the Speedmaster is a relatively good value. This past December, I saw the Moonwatch at the AD. They are so damn expensive for what is being offered. The bracelet doesn't match the price. The issue I had with my last experience with the watch was Omega's sales tactics with the piece. The SA was uttering that it will be a matter of time until the Moonwatch costs 15k CAD, then they will start comparing it to the Daytona. You cannot compare the difference in quality between them.

They are both excellent watches, so I don't think you can objectively determine that one is better than the other. Subjectively, I much prefer the look of the black-dial Speedmaster. Because appearance is my initial filter in deciding whether to buy a particular watch, if I were to buy a chronograph, I would choose a Speedmaster over a Daytona 100% of the time, even if they cost the same.

I have to go with the Speedmaster. I’m a huge fan of the Apollo space program. I remember watching the moon landings on TV. I was enthralled by them. The Speedmaster is a “must have” watch for me.

But the Daytona is almost as equally impressive to me. If I were not such a fan of the Apollo space program, I’d probably go with the Daytona.

No, at 42mm, the 3861 is larger than the Daytona and a little large for me.

The 321 is 39mm and is a nicer looking size (for me).

Also doesn't have the big case flare around the central body.

Both... It is as simple as that. I feel that any true WIS if the funds allow should have both in their collection. They are both legends in their own unique ways and both share a very high pedigree among watch nerds like us.

You are totally correct That being said, as someone who races cars, I could never purchase a Daytona...those are held for the individuals that win the 24h race...in my eyes.

Interesting. I guess we are all different.

I actually find that the 321 wears about the same as the 3861, maybe a tad larger.

I hear what you’re saying about the case, but visually the dial looks larger to my eye on the 321. Maybe because it’s less cluttered. If I recall it does actually measure a smidge larger too. This gives the appearance of an overall larger watch (to me).

The 321 is also larger than the 3861 measured lug to lug.

I would have said Daytona up until I held the new Speedy with the new bracelet. Wow ...

I also got a chance to see the Moonshine Gold with the green dial... No Daytona can compare.

I have the Daytona and a couple of Speedy's. My dad's vintage 861 and Snoopy 50th. The Daytona fits my wrist better so have to go Daytona

Speedmaster. It's simplicity is perfect. It has the history. The beautiful hand wound movement. It's a watch that does everything right. And it does NOT have screw down pushers, thank you OMEGA!

I'd have to throw my vote in with the Speedmaster. I love mine if not just for the historical connection, but that it seems so much more legible for my old man eyes. Don't get me wrong, I rarely if ever use the chrono feature on it but the Speedy's subdials seem so much easier to read.

I like both. Still waiting on a PM and SS Daytona. I hope to be able to get at least one of the two this year from my AD. I have a TT Daytona but not the same as the PM or SS.

I really like my Speedy as others have said it is the most legible watch I own. And last week I finally decided to go grey and purchase a Snoopy. This is the first watch that I purchased through the grey market and paid over MSRP for it. I would never do this for a Daytona, but had to be realistic as there was simply no way I was going to be able to get the Snoopy without going grey. It's a beautiful watch, and just love it. But again, I love the Daytona's as well.

I've tried on two Speedmasters in my life. Neither "wowed" me. I'm going out on a limb, but they both felt "chinsier" than a SS Daytona. Price/hype/availability equal, I think I'd still prefer the Daytona because it feels a bit more robust.
