Son's first Rolex, GMT II or Sub no date?

Thank you for all of your replies. Most of you are suggesting a watch with date and I agree which puts the Sub no date out of the frame.
The GMT IIc is a nice watch but he does not want the new style case and would be stressed by the pcl.
So it is down to Sub date, GMT II classic or SD.
In the US there are lots of sellers on TRF but apparently is a bit of a nightmare regarding import taxes.
The current favourite as I type is the Sub date as he can get it bnib. I know that he would go for the GMT II classic if it was still available from an AD.
Still it all makes for a lively debate!!

If times became hard which would be the easiet to sell and which would return more of his money?

if he buys used he will have a lot easier time getting most of his $ back in the event he needs to sell.

I think he should buy what he likes, not what will be the most sought after someday. I think he would be wise to purchase a 3- 5 year old model in good condition. He can save lots of money this way and still get a watch that he will be able to pass down to his child someday.And, as someone else said, buying prowned means you will have a better chance at getting most of your money out if you have to sell it. Especially if you sell it privately.

The sub is the most popular because...well, it is. I have a pre owned f series from mid 2003 and prchased it last year at a considerable savings. It looked just about new and keeps excellent time. My next aquisition is a GMT. And, I am hoping it will be the Gold 50th anniversary addition. Again, probably will look for a pre-owned watch.
