If you cancel the vacation you could use the saved money to buy any watch you want from a grey dealer.

It's the old paradigm. Before the mania when watches were readily available everywhere all the time, people would take advantage of favorable tax/exchange rates when travelling.

Like just about everything else the world has changed, and probably not for the better.

I went last year and popped in two stores. Didn’t go out of my way, just as I passed and you’d have better luck trying to strangle a dolphin. They said point blank “locals only” and tried to sell me other stuff.
