I hate to hear this and absolutely hate criminals.

As far as safes go, I am a firm believer that the bad guy can't steal what he can't find. My primary safe is a floor safe in a concrete floor. It's covered with a rug and has furniture on top of the rug. I doubt it would ever be discovered, but if it were a jackhammer would be necessary to remove the safe. I also have a wall safe bolted in between the studs and located behind a sliding interior door. There's no reason the bad guy would ever slide the door open because it would serve no purpose to do so. The floor safe is far more secure, but both make me comfortable.

I also have cameras everywhere. Being a full-time Judge, I take security very seriously. Finally, my stuff is fully insured.

I hate to say this but it sounds targeted. They knew your habits and knew what to look for, came prepared to take it. Didn't really look anywhere else. The fact that they did a little foraging might have even been part of the ruse.

I was thinking the same thing. Whomever committed this theft very likely knew the victims personally, or at least, knew of them and their habits, schedules, and watches they owned

So sorry OP. This story is upsetting. That someone will break in your home, your private place. Then steal what you work hard for.

My friend was robbed 4 months ago in front of his home. Police said he was followed from a restaurant. He fought back, when he noticed he was stabbed. Thank god he’s ok. Unfortunately, his Wimbledon was taken off his wrist. He had it insured, and replaced the Wimbledon with a SS Submariner Date.

Fast forward 4 months later, the robbers were caught. They had robbed several people of their wristwatches. I hope they receive, and serve a long sentence, then deported.

When you do bad, or harm others, you will get caught.

Get a professionally installed alarm system that is monitored 24/7 so the police will be dispatched. I’ve seen so much grainy video online from do-it-yourself alarm systems with the caption, “does anybody recognize these people who robbed me?” Nobody ever does. A monitored alarm system can have motion detectors, glass break detectors, door and window opening detectors, cameras as well as smoke/Co2 detectors and water leak detectors. Monthly monitoring is cheap, the install cost is a one time charge and you can have more detectors added to your system over time. Taking pictures of criminals is not enough, make sure a monitoring company can call and dispatch the cops.

So sorry to hear this. It's an unfortunate reality in places like California.

All we can do is put up as many barriers as we can. Monitored alarm system and cameras are the minimums. Reinforced doors so they can't kick them open and security film on windows to make it difficult to come through windows and sliding doors. A high quality safe that's heavy like over 800lbs bolted to the floor. And finally, everything fully insured. That's about all we can do to help deter incidents like this other than having 24 hour armed security at the house, which unrealistic for 99.99% of us.

When a local jeweler closed in a town close by, I went and bought a huge 6 foot tall ISM safe for peanuts. Cost more to move it.
However, combined with a great motion detection and video security system, my watches are secured.

Obviously, filing a police report was the right thing to do. It's unfortunate that they weren't insured. Was the safe secured to a stud or joist? Or free standing?

I think that posting serial numbers in as many places as you can will be a good thing for search engines to catch them and people to be able to identify them as stolen with a Google search. Here, Reddit, Moda, etc. Get the word out.

You can file a stolen watch report with Rolex USA by calling 212-980-2166 or emailing [email protected] and they will send you a form to fill out. You'll have to provide your police report information, etc. But, it's really only effective if, by chance, your watch makes it into a Rolex USA Service Center. My watch (stolen in 2013) has never made it into a service center.

Best of luck to you and really sorry to read about this.
Is the above an actual email for Rolex?

I’m getting mine insured this week I’ve been lagging but I’m gonna get it done this week. I definitely have other preventative measures in place including an alarm system but anything could happen even House Cleaners or your car wash guy.

It’s not but it seemed legit advice, and I’m not sure why someone would give bogus advice like that above. The 212 number also only connects to a fax.
Is there some actual way to contact Rolex to report stolen watch serial numbers?

I’m not really sure what you’re referring to but the 212 number posted above for Rolex USA above goes to a fax tone, and the email I’m not sure are real. The advice might be legit but I was asking if that’s an actual real email - [email protected] as that doesn’t seem to be a valid Rolex domain. So I was genuinely asking if that’s a real email to report to.
If there’s an actual number to call or email to send to I’d like to know.

Oh I see. I didn’t try the number etc. yes you can call Rolex (I’d suggest google the number) to report stolen watches.

Just a thought - when our family got burglarized years ago and they were able to get into our safe.

I hired a security expert to attempt to make it impossible for another break in (by pass the alarm and get into the safe). They said the easiest way to get what they want is to simply wait in from of the house and put a gun to your head when you park in the garage .

Private vaults and safety deposit boxes are the way to go for large collections. Home invasions are getting more common unfortunately.

Actually I did a search and that number is supposed to be indeed a fax for Rolex and not an actual phone number. I’ll try to send the information there as well.

Within our car group in Socal almost every month somebody gets burglarized for jewelry and cash.

I'm thinking thieves are following cars home? They're assuming expensive car so the must have nicer things at home.

CCTV is of course worthwhile we have plenty of it, but most of these vermin do not care.

It's a jungle out there.
