For collectors not into traditional round watch with 3 hands - this is your antidote.

De Bethune DB Kind of Grande Complication DBK2TV2

Eight complications spread across two dials. The contemporary face of the DBK2TV2 is home to the high-speed De Bethune 30-second tourbillon, the retrograde age of the Moon, the end of the power reserve indication and the time. Commanding the centre of the dial is De Bethune’s hallmark deltoid bridge, with its bright mirror-polished titanium surface supporting the asymmetric gear trains. The gleaming bridge is surmounted by a second, smaller blued-titanium deltoid structure for the minutes and jumping seconds bridge.

Swivelling the case of the DB Kind of Grande Complication reveals the more classical face, which hosts a perpetual calendar and a 3D moon phase display.

I really do like the brand but I’ve passed on a few releases because the value proposition is very weird. Like you said it’s in that tough area where if I spend more I can get something even better but not for a substantially higher amount of money. I still want a streamliner because I love the design and how it wears on the wrist, but I’d definitely pay more for better finishing.

I really like De Bethune but this is more of I like that it exists type of watch more so then being one I’d want to own.

I am not a big fan of rainbow watches. The black dialed elegante intrigues me. I really don't think I can pull off a rainbow journe.

By a man who wanted to sit at a table with Breguet, had he lived in the same era… but I guess it sells and François Paul has to pay the bills like everyone else…

Nice release from LF - do wish they'd made this a perpetual even if that adds 20k to the price. Patek has the annual calendar market cornered.

Not a bad watch but it is missing the higher grade movement and the guilloche dial of the salmon. To me this QF feels overpriced when the salmon felt expensive already despite being much more special. FWIW, the recent Revolution QF was USD 15k and limited to 25 watches.

Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Collection

https://monochrome-watches.com/2024-...h-specs-price/

Petite Seconde 40mm
Available in two iterations – one with a sandy gold dial and the second with a soft almond-green gold dial – the Parmigiani Toric Small Seconds has a 40.6mm polished rose gold or platinum case with a slim height of just 8.8mm and a relatively large 6mm crown.

Rose gold CHF 49,500
Platinum CHF 56,500

Chronographe Rattrapante 42mm
Limited to 30 pcs
Powered by the same PF361 split-second movement, the 18k rose gold case of the new Toric family flaunts its signature knurled bezel. With a 42.5mm diameter and 14.4mm thickness, the polished case is protected on both sides by anti-reflective sapphire crystals and is water-resistant to 50 metres. Instead of the teardrop-shaped pushers of the Tonda PF models, the Toric has round pushers.

CHF 135,000

This is absolutely horrible, put aside the tribute to Gino, Journe really seems to be coasting at this point and laughing at all the fan boys who have hopped on the bandwagon in the last 5 years.

Does it though?

I mean candidly and with no ill will, I didn’t know Mr Cukrowicz personally. But aside from that one picture they unearthed of him wearing a wild colored jacket, what does any of the press release rehashes that were published on this watch tell us to explain how that particular cliché of modern luxury watch marketing and production is related to his character or who he was as a person?

All I know about him is that he was very dedicated in building the FPJourne brand, which he certainly deserves credit for. But that achievement in classical and conservative watchmaking isn’t a particularly rainbow inspiring story.

Perhaps you knew him or can otherwise shed some more light on how this is more than just a touching story attached to a watch with a commercially really « opportune » theme. I would genuinely like to learn more. But it’s not for the lack of reading what was out there.
