Steel code taupe really are killers. I own the 3 hands. The daily perfection IMHO.
Now I want a code 3 hands rose gold blue laque dial to use for dressier occasions.

bought mine as a keeper, I like it and wear it daily, I don't care about appreciation/depreciation as I bought it to wear and not trade like something on the NYSE

we can't all like the same thing can we, I find it strange that people are ready to put the shoe in just for the sake of it

I actually find them (esp the new ones) quite appealing. The case is fantastic and the level of detail is extraordinary.

That said three things are holding me back:
PRICE first and foremost. Look I get it's an AP but the asking for these is getting really really rich across the board. New basic three-hander in steel after tax $30k... New basic PM three hander close to $40k? Ooooof

STRAP - no quick release, not too many options and overall it feels very flimsy to me and doesn't scream quality

WR - for a part dress part sports watch with a rubber strap it's 30m!?! Even a piddly Grand Seiko snowflake can make it to 100m for $5 and look good while doing it. It's simply pure laziness and trying to justify the asking price for a ROO...

Couple of comments here. I have both the original blue "rubber" strap and an original AP blue double alligator strap for my blue steel code Chrono.

While I agree a quick change system would be nice (love my Overseas for that), the straps are fixed with actual screws (hexagonal ones obviously), which is safer than the regular spring bar business of most other watches.

I don't see the regular "rubber" strap as "flimsy" at all, it is actually a sandwich of a leather strap underneath with the woven rubber that looks like textile on top.

That thing is more solid than a lot of other straps anywhere else, and is very comfortable.

And if you truly don't like the look (I actually do), the original AP alligator strap is of truly amazing quality, with alligator even on the inside of the strap, something I haven't seen done that often elsewhere with Patek and Vacheron.

Regarding the price, a Patek 6007G has a list price of 38K, for another simple three hander with a stamped guilloché dial (admittedly in WG). To me at least, the Code looks significantly better (that said I prefer my Chrono over the regular three hander, more to look at on the dial).

And on the WR, Patek just aligned the entire collection to 30m, even the Aquanaut.... I wouldn't swim with any watch with a leather strap (even if hidden under the rubber) in the first place, I have many other watches for that purpose.

Rubber strap in my opinion looks great and is very comfortable. But if you want a dressier look i agree.

This is my usual go to piece. Absolutely love it. At first, thought it was overpriced but I don’t feel that way anymore. So versatile. Classy, yet sporty. Larger dial makes reading it much easier for me. And that aventurine dial. Come on.

One just transacted for under 60k new on Moda yesterday. No brainer. It was RG tho. I skipped on the RG and waited for the WG.

I think you need a PP travel time to accompany that cirrus

I read these fawning posts about ADs and wonder are any of these things really "exceptional" or have our expectations when spending this >£30k on a piece of functional jewellery fallen so low?

So yeah: what was genuinely "exceptional" about the AD?

Funny that you attack a comment that was maybe 5% of what I wrote and not very controversial. I was just complimenting their service, which to my unsophisticated eye/taste had nothing to fault. Of course that should be the expectation when talking about such expensive products, but since I was sharing my observations about the watches I may as well add a comment on the service. I left the place feeling good and that matters to me, regardless of where I would eventually buy the watch (or not).

I was actually seriously considering the 5524R but then I saw how good a deal the 5520P is secondary and think I might head in that direction. Saving all my shmeckles for the AP 150th currently though :)

5520P is like 135k more no? Good deal since it’s probably the only chiming Patek for less than 200k

Surprised people not trying to climb their way into a “relationship” actually buy this watch.
