Some people are clearly hard to please and don’t deserve such generosity.I can only imagine how good it must feel for someone to gift you a great watch even if it isn’t quite what you wanted. As most have mentioned why can’t you just switch out the bracelet?

Secure the oyster bracelet later. It will cost you far less than a damaged relationship with a generous and kind-hearted man.

Changing out a bracelet will not damage the relationship. It’s changing out a strap on a watch. No one cares.
Especially since the OP, who I assume knows his FIL better than anyone else here, has stated pretty explicitly that his FIL will not care.

nice gift, my stepmother just cleaned out my father's accounts after he died and cried about poverty (hard to believe with 7 homes and substantial investments). It sounds like you hit the jackpot for the watch and a step-parent who actually cares about you.

So generous of your step-father!

Congratulations on the new acquisition!

If you’ve seen a recent post of mine, I’m looking for a Jubilee bracelet. I’ll buy it from you, leaving you without a bracelet - 126710s make good pocket watches, right?

Boy, it's a good thing he didn't mistakenly buy you a DayDate, then you'd really be screwed.

But seriously, I'm with the hive: I'd never sell or trade out the watch head, but the bracelet is another story. It's easy to say "just buy an Oyster" and have both, but it is a $2000- $3000 cost, so reach out to one of the Trusted Sellers on the site and they might be able to help you out with a swap. I think the Jubilee is generally considered a more desirable bracelet, so I don't think you'll have any trouble. In fact, I'd be surprised if you didn't already have a PM or two.

BTW, I think the watch on Jubilee is sharp looking, but on Oyster is just meh.

This! It’s the most honorable way to handle it. Accept this most generous gift, just as your stepdad purchased it, then source an extra Oyster bracelet for it, when you can. Before you do though, try wearing it oh the Jubilee. It’s a very comfortable bracelet.

Your FIL went out of his way to do a very kind and generous gesture for you, wear the watch and every time you see it on your wrist it will remind you have a wonderful family that cares for you.

Oyster v. Jubilee is not a big deal. Wear the jubilee. It’s actually the better bracelet for a modern GMT anyway.

The only other reasonable thing to do is buy an oyster bracelet and switch back and forth.

The watch is on his wrist regardless of what bracelet it’s on. He should put it in whatever bracelet he’ll wear it more on.

Exactly this.

Don’t be ungrateful. You’re getting an amazing gift and can pick up an oyster bracelet easily.

I have an order into my AD for an Oyster bracelet for my GMT. It should be as simple as that! It has been a month! Crazy that you have to wait.

I'd just look for an Oyster bracelet. You never know, you might want to switch up down the road.

Take the watch as gifted. Wear it and be gracious. If you want another bracelet then order one and buy it.

Thanks for all the feedback. I actually didn't know it was as easy as buying a new bracelet, which I can arrange and install. For some reason I incorrectly thought the actual case of the GMTII/VTNR jubilee and the GMTII/VTNR were different, e.g. the jubilee "architecture" and oyster "architecture" were part of the case. So that if you put an oyster bracelet onto a VTNR jubilee case, you'd see ~1 jubilee link or so and then the oyster. Make sense? Not sure how I got that wrong.

But if the cases are identical then I can enjoy the jubilee for a time and replace the bracelet at will with what I want.

I actually don't care for the PCLs, anyone know if a Sub 97200 bracelet will properly fit GMTII/VTNR?

What a great gift!!! Why don't you wear the watch for a while and down the road sometime get a second bracelet, and please fall off your chair when he gifts you the watch. By the way, I would love to have this problem. Good Luck

My goodness...

I read these posts about people getting a Rolex as a gift and wonder...what universe do they live in? It's such an alien concept- I have to be honest- my mind has trouble processing it.

That said, the only thing I can tell you is to do some reflection about what a generous gift this is, and the person who's making it, before making any decisions one way or the other. Good luck,

I thought I was an oyster only guy, then I got a BLRO on Jubilee…… game changer!!! I say you try it…… if it’s not you, buy an Oyster band. I bought an oyster cause I thought I wanted that just like you. Well…. It’s in the safe still sitting after putting it on and wearing it for one day, switched back to Jubilee.

Try it, just my $.02

Your stepfather is a gentleman. I’d wear the watch as is and treasure it for years to come.

Still trying to grasp where the “problem” is. Get real.

Also- would advise against calling his AD and letting them know that your stepfather gifted you a SS sports watch but you aren’t happy with it and you’re swapping it. Sounds like you are extremely ungrateful but aside from that, no reason for them to know.

Dude comes to a watch forum to figure out how to get a different bracelet for his watch.
Instead get relationship advice from people that actually know zero about the relationship.

Actually, that’s tracks for TRF…
