My father in law does that also always.
When i have a new one or another one he looks at his stupid watch of 60 euro and makes his remarks.
Acting i am stupid because of the fact his 60 Euro watch gives the same time.
Pffffff.....

Sounds like an idiot. I'd chalk it up to jealousy too. What a pity.

To the OP, the guy obviously was having SPS = Small Penis Syndrome. This situation is similar when you purchase a specific luxury automotive and the deuchebag has to talk about an automobile that is of higher value than the one you purchased and it's better than yours, but in retrospect the guy who is trying to put your luxury car down drives a clunker.

PS - He is truly a deuchebag, since he went out of his way to try and put your Rolex down.

There are a lot of things we would like to say, the proper response is actually nothing or something to the effect of you have a nice watch then walk away. We should not go down to there level.

Sorry to hear, you both showed a lot of restraint and handled it well. You cannot reason with a guy with an agenda, his problem not yours.

Exactly, Cody and all others who said it are bang one. Pretty scary sometimes how far people like that will go. Lucky for me i've never had it happen this bad for watches, better not speak too soon though!

I would have said, "You actually have a watch to tell the time?" The time is everywhere, on your cell phone, in the car, on the computer, on TV, etc. and yes a cheap $25.00 watch WILL keep probably better time than a Rolex depending on how it is regulated.

The $25.00 watch is thrown away when it quits, a Rolex is just sent in for service.

Will the $25.00 watch ever be worth MORE than $25.00, I doubt that.

But what will look best at your next reunion or just a night out on the town?

Some drive Yugos, some drive a Ferrari. ;-) maverick

People like that are small minded and generally negative about everything, except for their own brilliance. They are legends in their own minds, and jealous of those who can truly enjoy works of art regardless of cost.

I've never had this encounter, but, I am positive most people think my watch is fake. Which is fine with me! The right people will know. As they say, 99% of people in the World know what a Rolex is, 1% actually know what it looks like. Anyways, it is human nature to try and belittle someone who is bigger or who you perceive as "better", that's why we all hate celebrities!

We are all insecure, some people just choose to show it a bit more!

I've had this happen to me a few times in the past, and it use to bother me as well, but you just have to remember to 90% of the general public, a Rolex is just a watch with a fancy name brand attached to it. They don't appreciate the history or complexity of mechanical movements. I understand that, so it really doesn't bother me when I get comments like the one above. I just tell them that my appreciation for fine watches has nothing to do with their ability to tell time. They can understand that or not, it really doesn't matter to me. I might mention something like comparing a Timex to Rolex would be like comparing a Yaris to a Porche to a car enthusiast, or a parint to a painnting to an art enthusiast. Nothing wrong with the former in either case, just like there is nothing wrong with a Timex as a watch, but if anyone thinks I spent thousands of dollars just to be told the time then they arn't worth any of my time anyways

I notice one of them is wearing a Sea-Dweller. During a lull, I ask him how he likes it. A huge smile comes over his face and he tells me how much he adores his watch, that he dives with it quite often, other watches could not hold up to the punishment, he was considering getting a deepsea, he looked at my Daytona and we kind of separated ourselves from the group and started talking Rolex WIS stuff. It was a very enjoyable conversation.

UP WALKS CAPTAIN IDIOT. He had overheard us discussing Rolex and decided to join in, with an agenda. "Let me ask you guys with Rolexs something, how much did they cost? Several thousand dollars?" The other WIS and I looked at each other quizzicly, but probably nodded some kind of aproval. Captain Idiot shows us his wrist and exclaims: "Well my Timex only cost $29 dollars, and it has an alarm, stopwatch, and is more accurate then your Rolex! The other WIS and I roll our eyes at each other, mutter something like: "That's nice" and try to turn away to continue our conversation. This guy is persistant, shoving his wrist in our face saying: "Tell me my watch doesn't do more then yours, and I only paid $29 dollars for it... go ahead tell me... blah blah blah" The other WIS and I forcefully walked by this guy to show we weren't interested in this conversation and went outside to continue are talk.

My question is WHY?, WHY do some people feel it necessary to chastise me for my timepiece selection? I NEVER demean, criticize, put down, ANYONE'S choice of watches, (even if it's the ugliest thing I've ever seen). If the subject of someone's else's watch comes up I ALWAYS compliment them on it, even just to say: "That's a nice looking watch" or something similar. If someone is proud of their $29 Timex, (as they should be), and they'd like to show it off, I give the courtesy of listening, and always, ALWAYS compliment them, no matter what make/model/price the watch is. I RESPECT thier decision to pay $29 for their watch, WHY can't they RESPECT my decision to spend a lot more on a Rolex? They don't have to agree with it, understand it, like it, but WHY do some people feel the need to chastise me about my choice? Has this ever happened to anyone else or do I have some special kind of attraction for these people?

OK, Rant over....
